The torrent was going incredibly slow because 150+ people were trying to download this concert from my laptop. I am the only source for this recording. So since my upload is just standard DSL/Cable I get about 35KB/s on uploads. So its going full speed. The great thing about bittorrent is that everyone shares what they've downloaded. So if you start right now you're download speed might be astronomically high because 150+ peole have been downloading it, so they atleast have somewhere around 10 - 15% of the file done, probably MUCH more by now. So when you're downloading you're not just leeching from me, but from everyone else.

My suggestion, keep your downloader open 24x7. This way you can benefit from everyones' downloading/uploading. So enjoy!

see what Drake says above. It'll always be slow to begin with when theres only one seed. After a few people get to seed it, it'll be like shit through a goose speed-wise

can someone help me? I know nothing about this bit torrent thing. What do I need to do? Please try to keep it simple, I'm an older fart that remembers 1964, so I'm a bit of a computer dummy.

KY David:
I am an old fart too and , as a consequence, a computer dummy!
Go to your torrent site and download the files.
Then download Flac frontend to convert your flac files into Wav or MP3.
There are probably easier ways but this one works fine for me.

KYdavid,

This torrenting thing is new to me and I'm probably half your age smiling smiley
Basically, you need to download a "client" from the web - i.e. Bittorrent etc...
Then just need to register yourself with a site that "torrents"...do a google search - that will fill you in.

My question is:
How do you put a recording in your collection onto DIME ??
I have some great show ready to go !

Thanks for the help, but I'm still clueless! I downloaded bittorrent version 4.0.4. Now what!

Re: torrenting

Download a .torrent file (e.g. one off the Rocks Off tracker), and open it with the BitTorrent software. The actual music files themselves will then start downloading.

KYdavid, I'll try to keep it simple for you.

Now that you've downloaded bittorrent 4.0, you're still only halfway there.

Once you've downloaded the show, the folder for it will be stored on your hard drive.

Now you'll need a different application to convert and play it. Download Flac Frontend, which is one of the easiest decoder applications to use. Once Flac Frontend has been loaded onto your computer, simply move the folder that contains the downloaded show into Flac Frontend, then hit the "decode" button.

The files will be converted to .wav format, and you'll be able to play them using your computer's normal audio program.

Hope this helps.

You can download the codec to play FLAC files from your WMP (recent version) without converting first. [www.illiminable.com]

Drake, the Columbus, OH show is awesome -worth the wait. The sound quality is exceptional. Great job and thanks so much.

I will seed till Friday 5 pm at that point I will have to shut down.
