Rolling Stones do not perform in Berlin?
Date: September 23, 2005 16:38

Hi, did anybody hear of this? I heard, the Rolling Stones may not play in Berlin in 2006 because of the Soccer-Worldchampionship. The police in Berlin says, this would be too much: Football and Rolling Stones at the same time. There are plans to change the location to LEIPZIG. What do you think about this? (Sorry, my English is very bad).

There will very likely be no shows in Berlin before and during the World Cup (I doubt because of security/police, but the strict FIFA lawn regulations - all stadiums need a new lawn before the World Cup - even if the one it has now is fine - same lawn for all stadiums to have same conditions in every venue - having concerts would not help it). The Stones could play there after July 9th. Plenty of time to play in July, August or September. If they wanted to play there, they could (but later).

They probably wont play in Berlin (or anywhere in Germany) DURING the World Cup, but I would imagine its 99% certain they'll play the city at some point next summer - almost certainly after the tournament

The opening celebration of the World Cup is on june 8. right on the "holy" green of the Olympia Stadium, Berlin.
The first game will be on june 12.
Offials say, its no problem replaceing the green. They have 3 Days, and have done it before, in one day!

Juni 2006 statt.

of course theres the option to place the dates after after the tournament.
But to Not play Berlin - is no option

I've been to every Berlin and Leipzig show since 1995 (except the Waldbuhne 98) and it would be terrible if they missed it out this time.

Leipzig is a good field but the traffic after the show is awful.

One place in Germany that I hope they do not play this year is Oberhausen. That place was a disgusting mess of rocks and poor traffic jams after the show.

With the new Cologne stadium now open won't they play there instead?

Todays News say: The opening celebration of the World Cup will be one day earlier,
on june 7th. instead of 8th.
The first Games are swapped with Kaiserslautern, so Berlin will have its first game on june 13th. instead of 12th.
All due to the new lawn, beeing layed out after the opening show.

Hi,
I do prefer it anyway if the Stones will put their german gigs into late July early August or even later....
cause they can avoid playing half of the show in daylight, as it is typical for may/June shows...
but when I see the BIGGER BANG-stage, I have the feeling that it works much better in darkness than in daylight....
most of the showeffects just gets lost in the daylight...a Stones show in the dark is much better for the lightshow and the atmosphere at all.
