excellent.

No doubt someone will complain that its :

a) not enough
b) too late and should have been done last week
c) something that should have been done in private and not announced, just to get publicity
or
d) all of the above

I think it is not enough.
They charge up to 450 bucks for a twenty-song-set and give them only 1 million.
Just @#$%& publicity, they should have done it last week if they really wanted to help.
And all of the above.

Oh please. As long as this recovery will take, I think that the money could have been donated next week, next month or next year and would be useful. My hat's off to the Stones for their kind AND GENOROUS offering.

Hey, they didnt HAVE TO give one cent!!!!!!!!There are hundreds of other very wealthy entertainers who have not stepped up to give ANYTHING so cut the crap and for once just say something positive! Good job Stones!

I bet they aren't done yet.

Great and hilarious prediction, Gazza!

What? Only a billion dollars from Mick? And why didn't he donate BEFORE the hurricane?!

BTW, Start Me Up and Rough Justice sounded great from Detroit on US TV last night ... that is, if you could hear through the fake audience track.

... Which reminds me, shouldn't the Stones cancel their entire tour to personally take part in house to house cleanup from Hurricane Katrina? After all, it was the Stones flying around the world on tour and hurting the ozone that made the hurricane happen in the first place.

Blame it on the Stones ...

It' not enough. They can give all the money from one gig. For them, this only 2 hours of fun.

Bugger off, please. They are a rock band.
No Mother Theresa.
Why dont you give yourself, all ya saints!
I would save for my grandchildren (Jagger ought to have a great lot of´em);
and I think they do perfectly right to donate. 1 mill $ is a decent amount of money.

Please note they take part in a MTV-event for the hurricane victims on Saturday.

They filmed two songs for the special last night at the Milwaukee show....

Great guesture from the Stones. Debra is right, they didn`t have to give one cent. Knowing this is for sure not a place to write politics, I although must state here that Mr. Bush should spent all his life-time-salary for New Orleans and its victims - This man is guilty! - No prevention / crisis management at all, although he knew exactly about the danger there. I wonder if that has to do with kind of rassism in mr. bushs brain; he might have done lots of more preventional work there if popularity of New Orleans would be 90% white people...
I`m not quite sure, but I got the feeling it is like that....

1.000 000 USD is ok, I think, for the first step ...
Perhaps they will do another Hurricane Benefit in the very near future?

The Stones have made "pure joy" a possible reality everyday of my life through their music. Today, I'm just freakin prouder than ever to be a Stones fan. 1 million $ is awsome. This is going to take so much money for so many years I hope we don't forget about our brothers and sisters down south once the constant news coverage stops. I LOVE THE ROLLING STONES! Can't wait to see em' in October. Later y'all, cw

>>> Give 'em shelter:
Stones offer $1M

Rolling Stone Mick tells Rolling Stone mag that 'Sweet Neo Con' is a reply to a question we asked him during the election.

People kid Mick Jagger about being flinty, but the rock god and his fellow Stones are peeling off $1 million to help Hurricane Katrina victims.
The band is also making it easy for fans to join them in giving to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund at each stop on their Bigger Bang Tour.

Meanwhile, Jagger makes his 20th cover appearance on Rolling Stone today - more than any other artist.

Asked in the mag about the band's new song "Sweet Neo Con," Sir Mick recalls a conversation we had with him back in October, when we asked about the Bush-Kerry race.

"I don't want to overexplain [the politically charged song]," he tells David Fricke. "But it is very direct. During the presidential election, I was asked by the New York Daily News which side I was on. I said it's not polite to take sides in foreigners' elections. But we're not in an election now." <<<

Due to the poor reaction from fans to their charity gift, the Rolling Stones have decided to collect a 15% charity charge which attendance will have to pay at the entry gates before shows. Please get your cash ready before entrance.

I dont think so, to be honest.

However, my original point was made with reference to THIS previous thread

Not surprised at the reaction. Damned if they do something, damned if they dont.

I am quite happy they did something. Any amount is going to help. Even if all they did was give old clothes, it would help.Like many have said, they aren't obligated and it's good they gave money vs going on a rescue mission like Sean Penn did and then need to be rescued themselves.

Major respect to the guys for this great gesture. I feel embarrased about bitching that they don't make Daryl a full member the other day.

What are donation booths? Will the Red Cross sell T-Shirts? So every stonesfan can buy them and after some few concerts we have a second million USD donated by proudly t-shirt wearing fans!

>> The Rolling Stones will put donation booths at the concert venues of their current "A Bigger Bang Tour." The band also announced a donation of $1 million to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. <<
