R.I.P, brother. Myself, and I know many other brothers and sisters of the Peach Corps, will be playing your music today.

This hurts like hell. What a talent, what a voice. So many gorgeous songs from the Allman Brothers.

RIP Gregg.

Greatest American band ever (though maybe CCR is right there with them...but not today).

Lucky to see them maybe 15 times... Was hoping for one more.

RIP Greg. Truly a southern gentleman.

I had a tix for his show, few years ago, but the concert was canceled. So, I never got a chance for seeing him live in concert.

Keep on Ridin man...

Well, I've got to run to keep from hidin',
And I'm bound to keep on ridin'.
And I've got one more silver dollar,
But I'm not gonna let 'em catch me, no,
Not gonna let 'em catch the Midnight Rider.

My very first real concert, I went to with my Big Brother, was the Allman Brothers concert.
We waited outside after school for a GA concert, doors opened, we ran in and sat 2nd row center.
It was (still is) pretty cool. I wanna say it was 1974, but it looks like it was 1976.

I have seen 1500-2000 concerts since then... but ya never forget your first.

I wore out two or three 8track tapes of THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND AT FILLMORE EAST
then wore out a couple of cassettes... and one or 2 LPs... that album STILL KICKS ASS!!!

The first big arena concert I ever attended was the Marshall Tucker Band opening for the Allman Brothers at the Nassau Coliseum on March 13, 1976, the 5 year anniversary of the legendary Fillmore East show. I think they played until around 2:45 in the morning. It filled my head with some very unrealistic concepts and ideas about what rock concerts were supposed to be like.

I saw him in his band three times, once shortly before his brother died, and then twice at the Beacon.
Always a pleasure. RIP, Gregg.

The first big arena concert... 1976... filled my head with some very unrealistic concepts and ideas about what rock concerts were supposed to be like...

Gotta say I agree with that and it makes me wonder what if my first concert had not be The Allman Brothers in such excellent form.? What if I had been dragged to some boringlamefk band who sucked?

But as it is, my "first one" got me hooked... bad... and I chased that buzz... I am still chasing it. I have seen a lot of really great shows over the years and I have seen some piss poor shows like 55 minute nonshows and other lazy nonshows- you could tell the band didnt want to be there... etc etc... but I do not dwell on the piss poor shows pisspoorbands, I move forward and drop those lamefkgbands from my world.

But indeed, seeing what can be done, so ealry, so young, so close to the band, seeing it, seeing them, them seeing me... feeling it... The Allman Brothers in 1976 set the bar and put me on a path... on a road... and the road goes on forever.. or at least a lil longer.

All of which makes me love The Rolling Stones even more. 30-40 live shows for me and every show was top notch fun good times exciting and rocking... and they dont quit... they just keep on Rolling... one of the few things in life that has not let me down.

The Allman Brothers Band - Dreams

Consider that he wrote Dreams in his early 20s. Remarkable depth of feeling for such a young man.
