Though known for his comic genius, I thought he was very good in Casino as well. Very funny man.

They always use the word 'insult' with me, but I don't hurt anybody. I wouldn't be sitting here if I did. I make fun of everybody and exaggerate all our insecurities.

What an amazingly quick and brilliant wit. He is correct...all of his jokes were in good fun, and when he wasn't in "Mr. Warmth" mode, he was an incredibly kind and gracious man. RIP.

Never understood his appeal as a comedian, but as an actor, he was genuinely talented. Check out this rather disturbing appearance on the TV series Tales from the Crypt. He plays a ventriloquist who keeps his right "hand" covered .... because his "dummy" is actually a parasitic twin who's attached to the end of his arm. Not for the squeamish.

I was waiting for this thread.

Don would pick on anyone sitting in the first row. No stone unturned. It was good fun.

Oh, damn! Such a funny guy, and truly nice one you pierced the act. A friend (musician) opened for him once a few years ago and told me that Don watched their set, was lovely to them, and the audience adored him. Very sorry I never got to see him perform. Bob Newhart has lost a good pal, and one of the greats is gone. RIP Don.

Sad, but what a great long life he lived.
He was an inspiration - I loved his comedic style ever since I was a kid.
He most always mentioned his wife Barbara in interviews...condolences to his friends and family.
RIP Don.

Mr Rickles was a National Treasure

He was a movie star and legendary stand comedian.

I enjoyed him in Kelly's Heros... and Casino.. and everything. He made me laugh

I saw him perform live one time at the Canyon Club... he was awesome!

It just wouldn't be IORR without some wackjob always showing up in the RIP threads to hurl insults at the recently deceased.

Sad to hear. I'm not a fan of stand-up comedy. There are simply too many bad comedians around. Don is an exception. He was particulary good on tv-shows. He was made for that format.
Of course his material was wearing thin most often but he didn't need that. He was funny anyway. We won't see comedians like Don anymore. He wasn't made for the political correct era.
If you did his material today you would probably be prosecuted. So long, Mr Warmth.

I saw him about 10 years ago in the old Wayne Newton theater @ the Stardust. Even at 80 he was still just as sharp as ever. A very funny & (really) nice man. He will be missed. RIP

Don was one of a kind.

Loved him in Kelley's Heroes, then grew up watching him on Carson and later on Letterman.

Letterman's gig subbing for Neil Young (who's ill) at tomorrow's induction of Pearl Jam into the Rock 'n Roll Hall Of Fame just got a little more poignant.

RIP Don

The ENTIRE clip is even more brilliant...

Don Rickles was the ONLY guy on the planet who could have gotten away with teasing Sinatra about his (alleged) mafia ties AND kiss him on the mouth without getting punched (or worse).

It's a testament to how beloved Don was that Frank would let
him do all that on national TV.

I saw Mr. Rickles while in Vegas for the Stones show last year. Frail , but still sharp witted, he had us all laughing. The lady next to me commented, " I've already seen him twice, just felt like this was my last chance." Sadly prophetic. I have laughed at this mans work since a child.

.

The word Brilliant lost all meaning long ago because of overuse.

I just left another thread about an average Stones song was referred to as Brilliant and i come here and its flying just like predicted.

Urban Dictionary.

brilliant

A term the British use to describe everything.
I's brilliant in't it? Right, yah, bloody brilliant. Wha' is? Oh, yah, right, brilliant. Bloody brillant.
