This may be interesting:

Tom Waits: Tales from a Cracked Jukebox

Tom Waits is one of the most original musicians of the last five decades. Renowned for his gravelly voice and dazzling mix of musical styles, he's also one of modern music's most enigmatic and influential artists.

His songs have been covered by Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart and Norah Jones, among many others. But Waits has always pursued his own creative vision, with little concern for musical fashion.

In a long career of restless re-invention, from the barfly poet of his early albums to the junkyard ringmaster of Swordfishtrombones, his songs chronicle lives from the margins of American society - drifters, dreamers, hobos and hoodlums - and his music draws on a rich mix of influences, including the blues, jazz, Weimar cabaret and film noir.

Using rare archive, audio recordings and interviews, this film is a bewitching after-hours trip through the surreal, moonlit world of Waits's music - a portrait of a pioneering musician and his unique, alternative American songbook.

I especially like his early work and the period after that up till and including Rain Dogs. After that, all the "experimental Weill/Brecht/Ribot clickety clang" stuff grew a bit old on me.
But hopefully this documentary will be on Netflix too, I'd love to see it.

Many thanks...well worth checking out.
BBC4 is very good for music docs.
Surprised not to see Keith included in the list of contributors.

I love his acting as well; Mr Nick in The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus is a great character.

Many thanks for letting us know, Cristiano Radtke.

Enjoyable but they tried to compress his career into one hour. It should have lasted two hours at least.

Haha, I love his phrase "I was born at a very young age". Never heard that before.
