A friend of mine tonight stated that Keith went behind Brian's back to get Anita. I alway's thought that this was done in broad daylight, Brian just couldn't cope with much of anything at that point and losing Anita was just one more example of this. (I feel like I'm writing for a tabloid)

Well you could say that this is correct. On their trip to Morroco in 1967 Brian got ill so they duped him in Toulose in south France. Then it all started in the back seat of the "Blue Lena". Tom Keylock was driving with Keith and Anita alone in the back seat. Read more about it in any book about Brian. There are a few issued like, Brian Jones by Alan Clayson, Who Killed Christpher Robin by Terry Rawlings and more.
Keith and Anita took off for London and left Brian alone in Marrakesh, Morocco.

The other angle is that Keith "rescued" Anita from Brian who was beating her up quite badly at the time. IF this is true then Brian got what he deserved.
