Perfect.
The perfect 2nd number on an album, like Aint Too Proud To Beg or When The Whip Comes Down...etc.
Mick, Charlie, Ron... fantastic.
(of course Keith)
Killer!

Best song on Blue & Lonesome. What makes it stand out is Jagger's great sleazy vocal which kind of reminds me of the voice he used on Fingerprint File.

Mick rules on the whole "Blue & Lonesome" album, "Commit A Crime" is a great example.
His voice is the best since Tattoo You.

One of the best tracks on Blue And Lonesome, imo. Only surpassed by Little Rain and Hoodoo Blues, and perhaps Everybody Knows About My Good Thing.

A driving groove with snarling great vocals. The Stones are sounding just as the Stones should: Dangerous and dirty.

A fantastic recording, it shows that the Stones can play a groove which is unique.

Because of it's sheer power and life itself Commit has shoved
it's way to the top of my fave B&L tracks ... Often have it on repeat for hours ...
Mick's harp with the band pulling in hard behind him is just pure unadulterated Stones filth ... PLAY LOUD...

Shoulda been opening track of the album...

Who (*) said The Rolling Stones were three chord wonders?
One chord is enough to get the rock rolling!

(*)Yeah, I know it was Stu of course.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

A perfect cover! It's hard for me to rank it as there are too many perfect covers on the album.

A wonderful performance from everybody. Love when Keith hangs around those deep notes. The only thing that bothers me are the keys.

Despite being unable to unhear Howlin' Wolfs growling vocals accompanied by the dark and stark backing from his band on the original, I think the Stones did a fine cover of this. I also like the Mick/Jeff Beck White House version - not necessarily Micks vocals so much, but because it's raw and live with Jeff Beck's stellar guitar playing along Booker T.'s keyboards. I actually like it even better than the Stones' B&L version - Jeff adds something new and gives it a contemporary twist rather than just making it a rehash.

Mick Jagger & Jeff Beck - Commit a Crime

With that said, nothing can beat the Howlin' Wolf original.

Nice backing track. Once you heard the first bar you heard the entire track with the exception of, pard me, Jagger. It feels "frozen" and the guitars lack variety. Too shallow to call it a song.

I think this song, or rather this performance, really highlights how they turned a classic blues tune and turned it into a classic Rolling Stones tune.

Listening to Mick's amazing live performance of the song at The White House in 2012 accompanied by Jeff Beck and an all-star blues band, the song and the performance are fantastic and probably my favorite of those performed that night.

On this album though, add Keith, Ronnie, and Charlie.. you've got a classic Rolling Stones sound/groove that makes it their own. Love it! This also applies to the rest of the album imo, classic blues songs made into classic Rolling Stones songs. Love it!

Exactly! And that's why I prefer this version to the others.

I wish I liked it more.
Howling Wolf did it better and the Stones don't take it somewhere fresh or new. Jagger's singing has been mannered for years and he doesn't sell the song.
What the Stones did best, imo, was take the germ of an idea and build it into something majestic. All you have hear is the idea.

What I'm gonna say is lame, but it is what it is.

Lyrics matter here to me.
The first line
'I'm gonna leave you woman, before I commit a crime'
Yes, we all relate to, captured in 1 line.
But the rest- on and on about poison in the drinks-
too vivid, to picturest in my mind
and I can't get past Jagger being drugged.
Sorry man.
The lyrics don't transfer modern day.
With the Cosby thing and all.
No.

Of course the lyrics don't exactly "transfer to modern day"..
No offense, but kind of absurd to imagine classic blues songs would or should.

And,the notion of someone poisoning their spouse/lover is just as real today as when this song was written. I'm sure their are many modern/non-modern songs that one could tie into date-rape drug issues, but this sure isn't one.

I find all of the other lyrics transfer to modern day,
my opinion is this was does not.
Poison my drink may well be a metaphor
but I think this song means it literally.
Women couldn't get divorced as easily back then.
Yeah I don't like it.

Great version of a classic song with great lyrics! The imagery of Red Devli Lye! Great when you know about the blues and get the context. The Stones take it to a great level re-invigerating their Brit Blues roots!

Yeah I don't like it.

The whole song is a brilliant metaphor - violent, obsessive, jealous love...she's a red devil lyer with a poison tongue...he's gotta leave her before they kill each other. Got nothing to do with divorce, but that's just my take.

Yes, he did.
I wonder what it is about this number that Mick keeps wanting to get ahold of.

Yes but red light blue light could be an acid trip.
(LOL)
As for Mick singing 'Commit A Crime'
I confess it's my crush on him that prevents me enjoying hearing
a disgruntled woman is ... and then it did get me thinking about
the old background of the original lyrics.
But mostly I dig Mick grinning smiley
