Wembley or Twickenham?

In todays Daily Mirror small ads there is a 'official' hotline number for Twickenham next year so:

1 This is made up
2 They might play Twickenham and Wembley
3 They might be considering Twicks because of the problems at Wembley (last I heard the foundations had air bubbles in the concrete and had to be reinforced causing more delays.

Take your pick.

Twickenham was not a bad venue IMHO. The only problem was getting back as their were long queues and when we were back in London the tube was closed and you even won't get a taxi. Sleepy London town for sure...

Yes, you're right

I also copped something on the news about bad concrete or air bubbles in it - something like that anyway. Whatever the problem is, it invariably translates to "probable delays". Typical !!

It will be interesting to see how the new wembley shapes up espiecally regarding transport & access in & out of the venue.

I enjoyed twickenham and had a good weekend and cant remember any problems with transport & dont mind london, manchester but would be nice to have one or two in the midlands.

Wembley is shaping up very well. Anyone who was last there to see the stones will not recognise it. The new station and approach to the stadium is nearly complete together with an extremely immpresive stadium itself, which can be seen for miles around. They simply must play there. It is a truely inspiring site and will be made all the more so by the gracious presence of thier lordships.

Possibly they'll do a Twickenham or two early in the summer and finish (with a bang) at Wembley, if it is delayed beyond June.

Speaking of London venues, are Wembley Arena and Earl's Court sports arenas? If so, are there any hockey/basketball/etc. teams that play there? Are there any ice rinks in London?

All our sports are outdoors, we even play football in zero temperatures during the winter. They are exhibition halls, just the odd sports events. Wembley use to be a swimming pool (hence why it was called The Empire Pool).

Indoor sports like basketball and icehockey (we always call it icehockey to differentiate from field hockey) arent that big in Europe.

Earls Court is an exhibition centre, which is occasionally used for concerts. It would be the biggest indoor venue in London (it holds about 18-20,000) but its also the worst. Bad sound, bad sightlines etc. Its main advantage is that its in the centre of the city

Wembley Arena (formerly the Empire Pool, Wembley) is in the same complex as Wembley Stadium and is in the north west suburbs about a 30-40 minute Tube journey from the centre of the city. It holds about 11,000 for concerts. Its used for various sports events (boxing, showjumping etc - although not as much as before) but would be the most commonly used venue for major rock acts playing in London.

There was also the newer London Arena (aka the Docklands arena) which has just recently closed as it wasnt a financial success . Its out to the south east of the city, and thats close to the area where the main events in the 2012 Olympics will be held. Holds about 12,000 for concerts and was also used by the London Knights ice hockey team. Didnt get as much use for concerts as Wembley, though - although I think personally its a better venue. It'll be replaced as a concert and sports arena by the Millennium Dome, when that particular white elephant is converted into an arena
