I like both versions. I seem to remember buying Hot Rocks and finding the one with the organ intro. I then lost it and had to go out and buy it again. Imagine my surprise when I found a different version on my new copy! Very cool imo.

The guitar version by a mile. The song is played at a faster tempo too.

I used to own Hot Rocks on cassette and later on I remember being very excited when I purchased 12x5. I really wanted that song on cd. I WAS DISTRAUGHT! I didn't even know the Stones released two versions of the song!

The guitar version of Time Is On My Side wasn't released 'till 1966 in the States, but I think it's that version that features on the UK LP Rolling Stones No2, released in January 1965.

Yeah, I also love the Still Life version. Especially Keiths backing vocals. A pity that those were overdubbed.

Well, they had to be! Do you recall the original b/u vocals on this (Hampton)? Keith totally screws it up...funny, too - 'cos he knew it and winks at Mick as if to say, "okay, mate, we'll fix it in the studio!"

I also like the version on Got Live If You Want It.

The organ version is better because Brian's guitar is more audible and not mixed down so much (like in the guitar version). This was a classic example of the 'weaving' philosophy, with Brian playing the lead lines through most of the song but Keith performing the solo . . .

I cannot list any specific books off the top of head at the moment. I believe Keith has mentioned his guitar weaving w/ Brian in various interviews over the years. It is common knowledge among Stones fans that 'guitar weaving' had begun with Keith and Brian, and indeed there was a lot of that happening in many of the tracks cut from the early 60's till Aftermath . . .
