No doubt going to be shot down in flames for this..but sorry..But in my humble opinion Stripped was the last album that "floated my boat"..having now had several listens to the new album i wish they'd call it a day

Stripped was and is an incredible album... listening to it right now...

In fact, it's really my "go to" stones album... one of their 3 or 4 very best.

Don't agree with your thoughts on the new album, Roundhay, but definitely agree that Stripped is a great album.

Live in a different world now, with information freely avaialble on the internet, but when I saw the Stripped documentary late '95 my jaw dropped to the floor when I saw some of the songs they'd pulled out, eg Shine A Light, Rip This Joint etc. Great versions too. Kind of made me fall in love with the band all over again.

I think those shows at the Paradiso, Olympia and Brixton were probably the "best" setlists they've ever put together, an unbelievable sequence of shows.
(Sure if IORR was online then, people would still complain about the set!)

Perhaps I was hasty with my "call it a day" comment, its just that when I listen to Stripped I feel that they seem to be really enjoying themselves, I have never seen the Stones at a club gig, and guess I probably never will but there seems a genuine groove to their playing, doing it for themselves rather than a stadium size audience...I realise that to tour you really need to do it on the back of a new album, but despite the excitement of seeing the best Rock and Roll band in the world there always seems something is missing...but thats just my opinion.
Just wish i could win the lottery, book the Stones into a local theater and have my own show!!!...Sad git eh!

Stripped is totally underrated. Top Mature Stones Action.

Stripped Companion as well, that's a good one!

Oily.

Good album, but it shouldn't be overrated. They're just playing old songs. The whole sound of the album is too soft for me.

Both Stripped and especially Str. Companion are among the best things I've heard from the Stones. Just listen to Honest I Do, Beast Of Burden, Shine A light..... these discs are full of gems. I remember an interview with Charlie in which he said that Stripped is the most overlooked Stones album (according to himself).. and I think he might be right.

I don't want to upset here, but the point is that they are 'just playing old songs' the way no other band could.

Oily.

Chippy you're right! No Expectations is a delight on Str. Companion! But what about ADTL??? Does rock 'n roll get any better?

Man I'm listening to So Young now... that song has such a great vibe.. a bit like Wandering Spirit. To bad this gem never made it on to VL.

I'm sure you're aware, Rutger, but So Young was recorded in 1979 - Mick added new vocals to this in '94....

T&A thanks... I knew it was recorded before (didn't know it was 79 though), but I can't see why they didn't include it. They did the same thing during the TY sessions.
