Some Things Just Stick In Your Mind

Why does the sky turn grey ev'ry night
Sun rise again in time
Why do you think of the first girl you had
Some things just stick in your mind

Why does the rain fall down on the earth
Why do the clouds keep cryin'
Why do you sleep curled up like a child
Some things just stick in your mind

Why when the children grow up and leave
Still remember their nursery rhymes
Why must there be so much hate in their lives
Some things just stick in their minds

Should this song really be considered as a Rolling Stones song?

Kind of weird cross between a folk rock and a country song with Mick and Keith clearly having an eye on the US pop charts.

Nice melody that they could have put to far better use on Aftermath.

Only inasmuch that it was featured on "Metamorphosis". The same question could legitimately asked about most of side 1.

Yep, some things stick in my mind. Unfortunately, not this track.

Compared to most songs of horrible Between The Buttons, this one seems to be not that bad at all.

Isn't the melody just a Blowin' in the Wind ripoff, Mike?

Can't hear it myself but they were definitely influenced by the folka rocka boom as Lennon called it. They were to explore that further on Aftermath on songs like High And Dry.

I like this too, nice melody. Definitely my favorite track on side 1, at least for original tunes ... Don't Lie To Me is actually my top track on side 1

Isn't this an early pop song with a pedal steel guitar?

Except for Don't Lie To Me (obviously), I wouldn't have these tracks on a Stones "rarities" compilation. I think they belong more to a "early solo works" Jagger compilation.

That's a strange comment, really. The song was released as "The Rolling Stones".
A song like "Play With Fire" also only featured Jagger and Richards, plus a session musician and we gladly accept that as a Stones song.

These tracks were actually demo tracks for other artists and were never intended to be released as Rolling Stones songs. They ended on a Rolling Stones compilation without the band consent and they were released as "The Rolling Stones" because Allen Klein (ABKCO) had rights on these tracks...

According NZentgraf one of these songs is also recorded by the Stones (I have to check out which one it was) and I'm not sure these songs are especially written for other artist ........I rather think they just didn't fit within the Stones..........

Nice little ditty - they could have roughed it up a bit, recorded it themselves, and kept it!

The lead guitar throughout is exquisite. thumbs up
