Oops... Embarrasing, forgot Hendrix himself:
I put Are You Experienced after BtB under no 11,
and Electric Lady Ladyland after that.
My Generation (the Who) was left out too: It will no 13
according to this.
Thus I will have to use 28 numbers... Sorry.
I´m sure I´ve forgotten something else
(Well, let´s make it 30 numbers & I
- during this week - will throw in
some Cream and/or Yardbirds).

Where's Mr Fantasy and Traffic from Traffic? Definitely one of the best bands of that era.

Those Nuggets albums were fantastic! RHINO Rules!

I'd throw in 13th Floor Elevators and Moby Grape just off the top of my head.

There is so much missing here, the ultimate psychedlic band would have to be Pink Floyd, followed by Traffic. Also the Grateful Dead, Cream, Ten Years After, Iron Butterfly. Give me a second and I will think of some more.

Gotta have some "Mothers of Invention" I'd go with "Weasels Ripped my Flesh" if only for the cover.

"Live Dead" by Grateful Dead

"Surrealistic Pillow" by Jefferson Airplane

My cheeks are red.
Pink Floyd... Anyway, over the year I´ve began to prefer the post-Syd era
before the very Syd-era...
But, please note, Hound Dog: I said in my headline "from the psychedelic era",, not psychedelic:
the Doors aint no psychedelic band, and Beggars sure aint no psychedelic album!
I don´t agree with Dead; but with Mothers of Invention.
It´s just my humble list...
You´re all free to do your own:
in fact that was the purpose with this thread smiling smiley!

Piper at the gates of dawn is one of the most overrated albums of all time IMHO. Pink Floyd is a great band, but only from when Gilmour joined. I always think of Pink Floyd as a band with Gilmour not with Syd.

I can see there's no Beatles-album (or the double-EP Magical Mystery Tour) there.
My Generation is from 1965.

What about Procol Harum, Troggs, Tremeloes, Beach Boys, Turtlers, Walker Brothers, Easybeats, Bee Gees, Dave Dee & Co, Spencer Davis Group, Manfred Mann, Zombies...

And one-hit-wonders like Flowerpot Men, Crazy World of Arthur Brown.

Sabre's Dance - Love Sculpture.

Wow! All these songs bring back many fond memories. What about Donovan? The Box Tops!

What was so grat in that era was that all these bands (at least in the US) were played on the same station. Today with everything so formatted, you would not be exposed to such a wide variety of music.

It's so very lonely, you're 2,000 Light Years from home

Don't forget The Who Sell Out.
But actually, kids and kiddies, the best from that era
is Dylan's Basement Tapes (released and unreleased.)

Velvet Underground werent psychadelica but I'd consider them the best from that era together with Doors.

I'm surprised none of you have mentioned S F SORROW and PARACHUTE from THE PRETTY THINGS ......great records, The Pretty Things never got the acclaim they deserved. I think they are still playing as well........mainly in Europe ...I think!

Well, when you say "psychedlic era" I look at it like "... what were the most common records for trippin'..."

My answers, no particular order... these are the ones I remember getting the most "trip usage"...

Jefferson Airplane: Surrealistic Pillow
Yes: the record with 'roundabout' on it
Beatles: Sgt. Peppers
Jethro Tull: Stand Up
Grateful Dead: anything, are u kiddin, the PERFECT trippin' albums

Traffic, as someone mentioned here earlier, also got some trip-play... CrosbyStillsNash&Young got a fair amount too.

I don't think of the stones as a particularly "psychedlic" band, perhaps a bit above-average in that category since they just had so much airplay in general.

While many of the records listed here were 'released' during the 'psychedelic era' they are certainly NOT psychedelic in their content.

I ain't stupid, I'm just guitarded.
