I see Dexy's Midnight Runners as a good choice

The 2 bands with great loyal (and increasing) followings, that have a large number of incredible songs and are AWESOME LIVE:

Red Hot Chili Peppers
Motley Crue

U2's an awesome band. period. The Stones acknowledge that too from interviews I've read and their random performances with Bono. I could go on and on about how amazing U2 but i just got off work and I'm too tired, lol. They're very very good and I'm more than certain that the next act after the Stones to make as much money as the Stones will be U2.

AC/DC is certified for 21 million copies sold of "Back In Black." Sounds like they built their own mighty throne (as all the bands mentioned in the initial post).

No-one can ever replace the Stones - the only guy who comes close is Springsteen.

Yeah, no one. I get that. Completely.

But if I had to venture one guess (like the thread asked) . . . x-pensive winos.

Other than that particular guess?

No one.
