Who will be the heir to the throne?

Just wondering, when the Stones eventually pack it in, who will become THE BAND? Who will the Stones pass the torch to? U2? Aerosmith? AC/DC?

You must be joking. When they're gone, they're gone. There's no such THE BAND once they're gone.

The line of succession ends with the Stones...

The day the Stones pack it in is the day the music dies... No, let's get real: For U2 fans, U2 is THE BAND already, for AC/DC fans, AC/DC is THE BAND already.
For Stones fans, there won't be a THE BAND after the Stones.

I recall the early eighties when there was a sense in the air that we would not see the Stones again as a touring band. I felt miserable after the last '82 show... took months before I could go out and see other bands. Always compared them to the Stones. As good as many as them were, there just wasn't the same level of excitement.

Okay, so the general consensus is no one. Sounds damn good to me! Long live the Rolling Stones! Amen.

No one can and no one will, it's just that simple!

For forty plus years and still going no band can top that, the stones have written more classic songs then anybody, there worst albums are better then most bands best albums.

I just hope they can still continue, cause when they stop music will surly suck!

I agree, the line ends with the Stones. We're in a different era - stardom and mystique and drama (and even talent!) are subordinated to how many songs can I fit into my ipod and just run the crap through my head in a loop. And in case you're wondering (lol) I don't think this way because I'm now middle aged, I think it is just a fact, and not necessarily a permanent one. Culture is just very disposable right now and there is a big parking lot sized gap between the Stones (and perhaps a couple others from the same era as them) and the would-be new standard bearers. Just my 2 centavos.

I concur with most of the posts in this thread, there is no one out there right now, (not a band anyway), that will sit in the throne when the Stones leave it. As far as I'm concerned there never has been.

I ain't stupid, I'm just guitarded.

The Stones will not be fully appreciated by the media/rock fans until they are no longer with us to perform in live concert.
The greatest and longest running rock & roll band the 'Rolling Stones' will not receive full recognisition
until they stop performing.
There is a great amount of jealousy from younger people about a 43 year old band who still knock spots off their modern day heroes in live concert and on record.
A lot of the negativity that the Stones receive continues to be generated by the media by continually referring to them as a geriatic Rock & Roll band.
Unfortunately the Stones according to the media should have retired 25 years ago.
What absolute contrite gobshite and i amongst millions of others who attend the Stones concerts
will be eternally grateful that the guy's have not yet (43 years & still going) decided to call it a day.

People were looking for the new Beatles for years after they split up but I think it's now finally accepted there will never be another Beatles. There will never be another Presley. And there will never be another Stones!

Why bother? Sure there have been, and still are, good bands around. But there's no other band that has delivered the goods like the Stones, both live and on record. Thanks to Mick, Keith, Brian, Ronnie, Mick T., Charlie and Bill!

The stones are unique. Nobody comes close to them. Like there is only one king, there will be only one greatest rock and roll band in the world!

There is no REPLACEMENT for The Rolling Stones. Excuse me for saying this, but it's a fairly dumb question.

There can never be another Stones because they were original and created their own sound and super cool trifle too satanic persona. I think the closest to their "heir" is U2 - they have an original sound and are gaining in popularity 20+ years after their first album. Whether you like him or not, Bono has charisma and the band draws in huge numbers. Something inside of me feels that, in a way, the torch was passed from Mick to Bono when they dueted on "Joy" (Goddess in the Doorway).

I can't see anything common between the Stones and U2 (apart from the fact that they're making music and sell out stadiums). To me it's 2 different planets!!
The Stones are much more than music, it's a vibe, a spirit, a way of life, an attitude to life, and as far as I'm concerned there ain't anyone else that comes close to it.
