I tried to watch one of the 1st episodes but the MTV-style editing (chop chop chop) and the comicbook "depth" of the characters repelled me to the max. What's the point in designing an ambitious TV show to the 13-18 yo crowd only?
And overall the show had a fake/BS/overacted feel to it that left me cold. Maybe it was just because I just was getting off the masterful "Breaking Bad" show where directing and acting were extremely understated (which made them all the more powerful).

I also like Breaking Bad, but to describe any part of it as "understated" is laughable.

Ron Wood has Romany roots? He does have sort of Gypsy features. Interesting. Started to watch Peaky Blinders on Netflix than got away from it about two-thirds of the way through first season for some reason. Is it worth going back to watch it again?

It is : Cranston's acting was so restrained it was outstanding. Okay the plot was OTT but the way the story wa told was not. To put it simply (so you can understand) BB was not "24 hours".
And the general understated atmosphere around BB probbaly explains why Cranston managed to move to the big screen so easily. Most TV actors can't make the "big jump" cause their style of acting (extremely heavy) doesn't meet what a film director might demand.
