Lost a bet the other day, - as a friend told me, that he was convinced, that
The Stones had Minidisc-released several albums . . . .

I said "This can´t be true, - then I would have heard of those, - or ran into
some of them, - during my heavily collecting Stones " - !

The boy was Right ! - so I must have been sleepwalking, - or those releases
are pretty rare, - and never spoken much of, - among collectors . . .

It´s unclear to me, how many titles were released, - I have found 8, -
with Sticky Fingers as the earliest, - and Bridges To Babylon as the latest.

Any of you out there who are familiar with those releases ? -
and first of all can tell us : "How does they sound" ? ? ?
- the media itself should be lower quality than the CD, - but better than
the CompactCassette . . .
and were there made a special mastering for the Minidiscs ?

All info are more than welcome !

They sound more compressed than the cassettes.

Never had one of those releases, but was aware of their existence.
Anyway my Sony-MD-Deck died a long time ago...

I have Some Girls, Sticky fingers, It's Only rock and Roll, and Jump Back on mini disc. I play them on my portable mini disc player/recorder with head phones. The eq can be adjusted to taste.

To me they sound like the CDs, nothing different, no different mixes, very clear stereo sound.
Limited production, hence a little costly to buy, nice for collectors, but nothing special otherwise.

Wow. Had no idea!

I thought minidisc was mainly for recording. Concert recordings or taping conversations and lectures. Maybe it had a niche as a Walkman type of player.

It appears to be the mastering of ´93 - ´94 that is used for those Minidiscs.

I´ll add IORR and TY to the list, - but the Minidisc-releases seems to have been
quite sporadic , - with a few titles in Japan, - USA and Europe, - and having
searched the web, - it seems quite unlikely, that the whole album production -
1971 - 1994, - was released.

Here is the oddest release I have found, -
a Japan-release of a 3-track "Rain Fall Down"-Promo - 2006
- which must be the absolutely latest Minidisc release !

Of course I am deeply impressed by the technological progress -
(as a matter of fact, - I had a colleque who predicted this in 1983, -
as he couldn´t understand why they developed the CD, - another physical object
that was spinning around - to replace the vinyls, when you could simply have a little fingernail-size object to put in a "machine" . . ) -
BUT -
old a#s-hole me . . . .
it´s so UNROMANTIC !

Not answering the OT, but a friend recently turned me on to the Japanese SHM CD format - which has outstanding sound quality!
