So thats what they were holding that long gap for. Out of the cold north and into the warmth of the south. Should help keep the old bones limber.

Yes, in So America will be Summer time, then they'll go to Mexico City and LA and even thogh it will be Winter, the wheather's not that bad there...

Thought they were going to Hawaii after LA...and then to New Zealand, Japan and Australia before arriving in Europe..Seems that's not the case.

We can see from prior posts above, that the Feb 18 gig in Rio will be at the tail end of a very high energy window, so Rio is likely to be a ROCKIN' SHOW !!

The rest of the dates are plus or minus "average energy" levels, with no clear extreme high or low confluences of energy cycles for the Fab Four...

Also re-iterating the very high energy zone indicated for the recently announced Jan 18th gig in New York... that may be one of the very highest energy extremes on this leg of the Tour !!

BE THERE !

looks like there's room before or after the LA gig to do an arena in the Bay Area...

there'll almost certainly be a 2nd Mexico City show on the 28th, I reckon

They're supposed to be playing Hawaii too. That could be after LA although I reckon its more likely to be after New Orleans en route to Japan...

If you look closely, you can see a date in Memphis has now been added on December 3rd.

1 in Rio & only 2 in BA? Sounds fishy...

Hope they add about 3 more to each...If so...I'm flying down!

They do seem to really be shortchanging South America, which doesn't amke sense when you consider the costs of shipping that stadium stage there for only 3 shows. There is room between Feb 13-16 for 2 shows prior to Rio, hopefully in Sao Paulo, but there is no more room after Buenos Aires for additional shows prior to Mexico City. It seems that the currency crisis in Argentina from 3 years ago has made them go very conservative.

Perhaps they will not even ship the stadium stage to South Ameirca and go with just a much more basic stage. I cannot see how that massive stage could be set up on Copacabana Beach anyway. This show could be a disaster in the making, ala Altamont. As this apparently is going to be a free show, it will attract thousands of non Stones fans, including some from the favelas (shanty towns) which is what happened there last year when Lenny Kravitz played on the beach, which will ruin it for the real fans who would gladly pay to see the band play.

If it is the only show in Brazil, then the government of Rio de Janeiro would have to be paying dearly for it, hoping to recoup a lot from expected tourism to the city. Putting this show in Maracana would make a lot more sense.

You could be right. My g/f is from BA & I'd have a free place to stay...but don't think I'll fly that far for just 2-3 gigs.

The capacity of the RIO show is at least 400,000. Copacabana beach area. One of the largest Stones shows ever. Isn't that enough? One show should be ok mthen. Still they might do Maracana... See the IORR tour dates. There are capacity in there to.

400,000??? My GOD!!!! Just too big to get a good spot...

Bjornulf, the 400,000 capacity will certainly accomodate all Stones fans in Rio, but forces everyone else in the country to travel to see the boys. I have a girlfriend and many friends in Sao Paulo who all are dying to see the Stones, but will not travel to Rio to see them, due in large part that they feel allowing 400,000 people to see them for free will bring in the wrong element of people and lead to a potentially dangerous situation. The violence in Rio has grown dramatically in the past 3 years and is keeping the Paulistas I know from having any desire to go to Rio. They may also play in Maracana as you noted, but it should be the only Rio date, as opposed to a second show for the same city. Sao Paulo is by far the largest city in South America and could easily fill a large stadium with paying fans.

I still don't understand why the government of Rio would pay millions of dollars to have the Stones play there for free, when the band can easily play at Maracana at no cost to the government. The only reason I can see for this is that the mayor or governor is doing this in a bid to win votes for re-election.
