Satisfaction in 1975-78
Posted by: HonkeyTonkFlash ()

Satisfaction was not performed regularly on the 1975 and 1978 American tours. I heard them do it at JFK Stadium in 1978, but don't believe they did it at most other shows. Is there any audio of Satisfaction from 1975 or 1978? Curious as to how it would sound in those eras. Wasn't crazy about the 1981 version and I can't really remember what it sounded like in 1978.

There is a version from Knebworth 1976 in audience quality. It sounds really great.

Satisfaction in 1978 was quite different, but very good

In 78 it was very fast and furious. Very Some Girls style punk. Loved it! I have that orange vinyl too! It came with the Bootleg In Again, Out Again.

1981 was also pretty damned fast!

1978's beat is different as well as Mick's singing
(I really dislike my spell-check, sorry)

Mick once said that he doesn't want to be singing Satisfaction when he is 80. >grinning smiley<

Some of his phrasing feels influenced by the DEVO version!

Wouldn't be at all surprised if he is still singing it at 80!

They played it in Oakland and I think one two other places. Strange that they didn't play it in Anaheim.

Keith played the riff in 1978 on the 9-11-12 fret on the third and fourth stings.
I think I saw him in a recent video playing it the same way, but I can't remember where I saw it.

Love the Philly '78 version. Mid set. It was as if Mick said, "We gotta get this crowd moving."

Yeah, he said 40 - then in a later interview he said he ups it every decade!

Mick is only 48 in hexadecimal, that sounds better. I am still in my thirties in hex!

Fellow software engineer? I love hexadecimal notation, haha.

Hex is the new decimal, man. It's better than faking your birth certificate!

Not a software engineer, but way back when I took some courses.

Another thing that was cool about Satisfaction in 1978 was that it was done more towards the late-middle of the show rather than saving it for an obligatory ending warhorse.. Also liked it in 1994 when they did it very early, like 4th or 5th song in the show. That was cool.

Yeah, I dunno, sometimes it sounds grating to me when he plays it that way. In 2006, it sounded like he played it on two strings but down lower. It had a more gritty, power chord sound than just the studio single note riff that he plays nowadays. I liked it...BTW - just watched the interview they did for the Roundhay Park release and found it interesting how Keith said they didn't used to like playing Satisfaction because the studio version seemed so iconic. Guess they got over that!
