Just thinking how great it would be
to see a complete show of B-Stage like
songs.
Doubt it will ever happen.
I realize that the current type shows
appeal to the 1st time concert goers
who obviously want all the war-horses.
I remember 97 in Buffalo, listening to Little Queenie on the B-Stage,if you
closed your eyes it sounded as good as
Ya-Yas.
Any thoughts?

Of course you are right mulecrow but at this point we know exactly what to expect from this band at the large venues. Perhaps at a club or private show in the future, but as you say they are obviously out to please the least common denominator fan at the big shows. Most us hard core fans dream about a show with more than a couple surprises.

If you want Back to Basics you are going to have to get Bills latest record.

Start with a war horse,two more throughout the show and finish with one.

The rest, go back through the catalogue of rarer numbers and maybe some covers.

We all love the warhorses but how many times do we need to hear them.

We don't need any more greatest hit shows it's been done to death.

One day in the near future there won't be any more shows.

What will we reminisce about then?

I just read (in another thread) that the best selling album world wide at this moment (2016)
is Hot Rocks.
So here's your answer why the setlists are what they are.
We can indeed hope for theatre shows, which would allow them more freedom to experiment.
But what are the chances that (1) they will give those small scale shows ever again and
(2) loyal fans like us, who are interested in lesser known songs will be able to get a ticket
for those shows.

I just counted up the top 40 hits (on Wikipedia) for the Stones in US and Uk and lost count at about 50. To us they are warhorses, to the average ticket buyer they are beloved songs they want to hear.

I like most hear would love an obscure set. I think we are kind oh hard on the boys regarding set lists. The sets really try to straddle both worlds.

We can wish for this or that setlist. It doesn't matter. In the end it will be approximately the same as the Zip Code Tour. I guess they have rehearsed a couple of (maybe 2-3) odd (rare) songs
to throw in during this 15 gig Olé Tour though. About 85 percent of the setlists will be warhorses however. Most probably...

The Stones are lucky to go through a show of warhorses without major incidents. To go deeper in their catalogue would mean to rehearse for months. Plus, many people see the Stones for the first time, they want to hear the hits. Even die-hard fans want to hear at least half of the hits, that were played during zip-code. No one can imagine a Stones-concert without Brown Sugar, Satisfaction, HTW and on and on.
There will never be major changes regarding the setlist. It is what it is. We have to be lucky that it´s still surprisingly good.

Of course it would do no harm to play at least half of the Dirty-Work-album. Winning Ugly would be a large-venue-audience-pleaser for sure.

I always loved that rehearsal version of Brown Sugar too. Simple and effective rock and roll that. Makes you appreciate every single one of the musicians!

Ah, the initial b-stage experience. Mine was at my 9th Stones show (Philadelphia 1997). Just six musicians, no frills, no spectacle. We got Little Queenie, Crazy Mama, and The Last Time. I was about 50 feet from the b-stage. That miniset was the best live Stones I'd attended to that point. I'd be fine with a return to something like that.
