I will wait to purchase a lottery ticket if and when the total exceeds $2.0 billion.
Many of the people who are buying now will give up hope and not buy again and again.
Chance will be slightly better and the winnings will be grander!

First purchase - hire the Stones with Paul McCartney and Ringo as warm-up band for three shows during a week on a private tropical island that I'd rent.
Then, I'd persuade the Sons of Beatles to form ($$$$$$), and sponsor their album and tour. grinning smiley

Odds don't change with the amount of people that play. Odds are the same if you alone play or 1,000,000 people play. Its still 1 in 292,201,338.00. You're playing against the draw of the balls. Not other people.

The odds of someone else picking the same numbers as you decrease as fewer people play, so if your number wins you are less likely to have to split the pot with others... although I was/am kidding about any plan of how to play this stupid lottery working being a good idea.

The best plan is to buy an ice cream cone or bottle of beer with the money and be a sure winner.

Thanks for pointing that out everwest1, that makes sense.
I never really thought my strategy through as math/percentages/averages, etc. aren't one of my strengths.confused smiley

I'll opt for your plan B, but will splurge and buy an ice cream cone AND a bottle of beer! WIN!!!
smiling smiley Perfecto!!! That is what is known as WINNING!!!

UUUUUuuummmmm ice cream and beeeeeeer

What is a mind bender is that is you took that 1.6 billion, and based on the population of the US you could just give everyone 3 million dollars! Talk about solving poverty! But then no one would probably work!

This is the best idea, I vote we just do this.

Just one hitch, with 300+ million people in the states, we're gonna need a bigger boat. Or we could exclude all of the... nah, we cant do that... so uhm... we're gonna need a bigger boat.

Maybe we could just give everyone 5 bucks... but then most people would probably just go buy lottery tickets with it... but I would buy ice cream and beer.
