It was pretty good. Better than the last 3 certainly. I'd say tied for third best with "Return of the Jedi". "Empire" best, 1st one second. Most of the cast good but I thought the villian was a bit of a fop. Hopefully that situation will improve. Thought the end was the best part. A worthy effort overall.

I agree with your ranking actually. Empire is the undisputed champion.

I know some kids, however, who like the first 3. I think that the original trilogy comes off as too dated for millennials. Something for everyone to like I guess.

Only a douche bag would read a thread about a movie after it's release and not expect to find spoilers.

At ease soldier it's just a popcorn movie for the 5-18 yo population. No big deal here...
It's not as bad as spoiling the end of "Apocalypse Now".

no, i'd go with the original assertion, although opening a thread about the movie is going to be dangerous if you haven't seen it yet.

The one thing is obvious and I loved how the history is so vague but Rey, that's still a mystery! There's no way to know if she's Han's daughter or Luke's daughter. She knows her way around the Falcon pretty good. And she thinks like Han. Yet...

She's really got the Force in her. Leia wasn't exactly Jedi material so...

It's funny how Kylo is - with perfection - made out to be a Darth Vader wannabe! He's got a really good grip on The Dark Side Of The Force... he just doesn't have other necessary parts down.

Or does he...

Great movie. I've always though 5 was the best, and it probably still is, but 7 gives it a run for its rank and certainly is up there with 4 in terms of how it sets the next generation. Sure, Jakku is like Tatooine and had a cantina with a goofy band but so what - part of it is a nod to the past while not being so evolved. Think of how ugly 1 and 2 were with their ships and clothing. Just so not what one would expect. 7 has evolution in it but not out of control like Lucas would have done.

I liked 3 enough to have watched it several times, mainly because it ties the story together and you see the transformation of not only Anakin but also Palpatine. 6 is only good for the Luke-Vader-Emeror-Death Star 2 scenes and is, by default, better than 1 and 2.

7 is good. Real good. Possibly the best one.

I agree about the new movie being one of the best, and I surprised myself by being really
enthusiastic. I didn't expect that, and mostly went to see my son enjoying it. At the end
I almost enjoyed it more than he did.

The fact is it's extremely well done and some people will never come to terms with that due to... nostalgia, I suppose. I love 4 and 5 but 7 is excellent - it maintains Lucas' bizarre scene switches but does it better.

The nods to the past were the perfect way to go here. You get back everyone who was so let down by the last trilogy. Once they're back in, it's wide open for the next two movies. I was sold after about fifteen or twenty minutes. You're actually in a 3 dimensional world, not the wooden actors in front of CGI backgrounds that was eps. 1 thru 3. The main characters had energy and enthusiasm, it wasn't the solemn garbage of before. Mixing them in with old favorites just eases the transition for future stories.

Empire is the undisputed champion? A matter of taste, no?

I myself prefer (still) the first Star Wars film. It was, after all, the one that set the standard for the sequels. I saw it 5 times when it came out. This holds a lot of childhood memories, thus all of the sequels not as good to me.

I thought it was really great! I went to a late night showing on the 18th with my (future) brother-in-law. My sister's fiancé is also a big Star Wars fan, so we went and both loved it. Can't wait to go again with my dad and then again in the spring when it comes to the big Victoria Museum IMAX. I'll be pre-ordering the DVD off Amazon pretty soon now, probably spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Millennials know nothing about quality and in this case have no idea about art. In fact, the only thing they know is how to turn their phone on. If it's not appable then it's pointless.

3 stepped away from the stupidity of 1 and 2, somehow, and, with those two in mind, is a good movie (it's possibly better than 6 thanks to the stupid Ewoks). Even though it's still a bit hip hip hooray with the dialogue in the front half of the movie, it turns into the kind of Star Wars movie it should be at about the half way point. Where 4 is great and 5 is absolutely brilliant, 7 falls somewhere between 4 and 5, although I am leaning towards 7 being the best of all of them.

Although this article says one thing others have said Jurassic World had the biggest opening weekend financially. Star Wars 7 hasn't been released in China yet, which will probably help put it over the $2 billion mark.

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Box Office: $27M Thursday, $391M First Week, $813M Worldwide Total

Star Wars: The Force Awakens earned a whopping $27.59 million on Thursday. That’s a drop of just 27% from Wednesday. Christmas Eve is usually an off day at the box office, with ticket sales shooting back up on Christmas Day.

Really? This is such a stereotype and sweeping statement. I'll have you know that I'm 25 and far prefer the OT to the prequels, most people that I know my age do in fact. I frankly find your statement a bit insulting.

If everyone my age knew nothing about quality and art (which in itself is a very subjective thing) then what am I doing posting on a Stones board?

Just saw the movie with the family last night. I'll give my review after this.

I left the theatre with a Rey theory. I think she is Obi Wan Kenobi's daughter. The reason is because it was Obi Wan in Episode III that struck down Anakin and left him to burn and die at the lava flow only to be saved by the Emperor Palpatine at the last moment before the planet disintegrates.

The same type of lightsaber duel left Kylo Ren disfigured by Rey with similar events as the breakup of the planet and the rescue of Kylo Ren before he parishes and the planet also disintegrates. The similarities are too obvious.

The only question is will there be a flashback in Episode VIII confirming this and who the mother of Rey is.

I really enjoyed it, compared to the prequels. Seeing TPM in '99 was a bitter disappointment. I was a huge Star Wars fan as a kid, in the Lucasfilm fanclub, subscriber to the Star Wars Marvel comic, read a bunch of the EU books, etc. Then I saw that Ep. I crap and was angry. The prequels got better with each film, but never really felt like a Star Wars movie. More like a video game. This felt like a Star Wars movie though, so I was very happy. My only problem was it felt a little TOO much like a Star Wars movie. As many people/critics have pointed out, it's kind of a rehash of Ep. IV, and what they didn't lift from a Star Wars movie they lifted from the books. Which they threw out of canon to make these movies. Han and Leia's son turning to the Dark Side comes from the books, I prefer the execution here. That guy was great as Kylo Ren, really good new bad guy. I enjoyed all the new characters, except for the unnecessary motion-capture Snoke. I guess Andy Serkis has to eat too. It wasn't everything I hoped for, I didn't enjoy it more than the originals, I thought it was a little lazy building another Death Star (regardless of what they called it, which wasn't far off from Death Star anyway) and couldn't help but think that maybe people would stop bitching about RotJ being "lazy" for building a second one.

That is impossible due to the time frame. Just the fact that The Force Awakens takes place 30 years after the Return of the Jedi. That would make her far too old to correspond with Rey's age in The Force Awakens. Also, consider that the only plausible time frame for her to be born as Obi's daughter would be from the Revenge of the Sith on until Obi's death in Star Wars a New Hope. So again that would make her age impossible to correspond with the timeline of The Force Awakens. I think she is either Luke's daughter...which could give a backstory to him violating celibacy of the Jedi order and his failing with Kylo Ren as an apprentice. Or, she is Han and Leah's daughter that was sent away, and could involve Han in further films as a backstory flashback. But again the age bit becomes problematic. So I suspect it will be some left turn plot twist that will surprise us all. Like her being and daughter of another character that hasn't been shown yet, or even a new stand alone character with the force.

It takes place 30 years after RotJ, but it's roughly 35 years since Ben died in ANH. Which I'd still say is too long.
