From the link: "Music's greatest drummer...." Hmmm, I think the names Buddy Rich, Bernard Purdie, Charlie Watts, Ringo Starr, Mitch Mitchell (he was essential to Hendrix) and others should be taken into account when we start talkin' 'bout greatest drummers.

Great drummer, and I think he wrote ALL the lyrics for Rush.
Not a huge Rush fan, but no denying they have some great songs...

Lol I mean completely unexpected. This last tour was as farewell, in the best way, as you can get. A true celebration as opposed to a cash grab.

But nonetheless sad. The end of an era. I struggle to think if there will be drummers we talk about in 30 years like we did with Neil or Charlie. They are ones of a kind.

In 30 years, I'm afraid we'll be talking about machine programmers instead of actual drummers. ;-(

That was the eighties...passed mistake I hope....and if it wasn't a machine it was frigging Jim Keltner or Sly Dunbar winking smiley

As a musician myself, I was sad to read this. The concept of one's body not being able to perform at the level the heart and mind desires/requires is something I'm facing more and more as I age. Thankfully, for me, my carpal tunnel, hearing & neck & back issues aren't at the state where they keep me from playing with the required levels of proficiency.

Although I'm not what I'd call a fan of Rush, I've got tons of respect for those guys. I wonder what the other two will end up doing. From what I understand, they've known each other since middle school. I can't imagine that they would try to do anything as "Rush" but I wonder if they'll try to do something together. Who knows, maybe they're ready to call it a career as well. Glad I got to see them live at least once. AMAZING musical abilities on display that night.

Peace,
Mr DJA

Neil Peart can retire, thats okay with me, BUT before I must have seen RUSH live in concert. I've tried it 4x and it has never worked! On my 5th try seeing Rush live, it must work!!!

On those websites, Geddy Lee says the rumor is UNTRUE!!!
