The most amazing thing to me about the show is that 65-year Max Weinberg played drums for four straight hours wearing a long-sleeved dress shirt, a dress vest and a tie, and didn't even think to roll his sleeves up or loosen his tie.

After four hours he was still playing with his tie on straight and his sleeves buttoned. That's superhuman.

Same with Garry Tallent...he played in a full suit and kept his tie on all night. I don't know what kind of ventilation system they can put on stages in stadium situations but that's beyond impressive stamina at their ages.

The Virginia Beach (amphitheater) show should be a doozie. I actually wanted to see the show but the elements of Florida to VA Beach - coordinates of timing, flight scheduling, scoring tickets must be aligned accordingly. Plus I had seen him in Sunrise- so decision worked out correctly due to the tropical storm.

Hopefully ,the "MagicRat" whoever this person is, will film concert tonight.

Ole Miss at FSU ( really Orlando) will be the agenda - maybe periscope will broadcast Va Beach show tonite.

I was there last night at Virginia Beach and it certainly wasn't a River show.
The first ten songs came from his first 2 albums: Greetings From Asbury Park and The Wild , The Willing & the E Street Shuffle.
He started out solo on piano with "For You", the rest of the set was:
2. Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?
3. It's Hard to Be a Saint in the City
4. Growin' Up
5. Spirit in the Night
6. Lost in the Flood
7. Kitty’s Back
8. E Street Shuffle
9. Incident on 57th Street
10. Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)
11. Thunder Road (sign)
12. Pink Cadillac (sign)
13. Save My Love (Darkness outtake)
14. Candy’s Room
15. She’s the One
16. FACTORY
17. 41 Shots (American Skin)
18. The Promised Land
19. Hungry Heart
20. Out in the Street
21. Mary’s Place
22. Because the Night
23. The Rising
24. Badlands
25. Land of Hope and Dreams
26. Backstreets
27. Born to Run
28. Dancing in the Dark
29. Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out
30. Shout
31. Bobby Jean
32. This Hard Land (solo acoustic)
I suspect Bruce is gearing up for his book tour; his autobiography comes out later this month - last night's set heavily weighted towards older songs suggests, to me at least, that he's been revisiting his past during the writing process and this stuff is fresh in his mind and still speaks for him.
At 3 hours and 53 minutes I would say that he should be looking more at quality than quantity: a few songs are dragged out beyond their limits -I'm talking about "Mary's Place" and "Land of Hope and Dreams". At least we were spared "Waitin' on a Sunny Day"!

Tsk tsk, poor Bruce. Out promoting his upcoming autobiography to be released next month, which he rips out his dark secret

the o' so painful disclosure/ memory of getting
depressed at age 60. Poor buddy felt the blues.
Oh dear. Ya see,
his Pappy probably had it, and it's all his fault,
as the old man could never quite say
'I love you'
only
'me too'
Such a tough, rough life.

GAG!
Give me a break!
Please!

*It was a joke.
Bruce has got high class white man problem.
Poor rich wife had to exasperatingly take him to a doc and say:
he needs a pill!
The horrors! At age 60 it hit. No more places left to vacation?
This is his big selling autobiography secret?
Give me a break.
Top story reveal in the press (sell, sell, sell)

P.S.
I am quite aware of mental illness and the devestation it can cause in real life.
This is a pathetic, out of touch display from Bruce.
Sorry. Get real.

Hardly name-calling. A sociopath is incapable of feeling empathy for other people.

Mocking a good man's (and whatever you think of his music, he is a good man) clinical depression simply because he's wealthy is the textbook definition of a lack of empathy.

probably not cool.
But this is, after all, a RS forum,

Ouch. I NEVER, EVER GOT PERSONAL WITH YOU.

And Robin Williams issues verses Bruce's first need for antidepressant at age 60
seem world's apart. Robin had medical disease affecting his brain.

I apologized for my opinion being misinterpreted as a slight on mental illness.

If you really don't think what you said can be taken as a slight on mental illness, then that shows your ignorance on the subject at hand. Depression and other mental disorders can happen to anyone; even rich and famous musicians in their 60s are not immune to it. You're making light of it by implying that Springsteen is lying about it and making it up to promote his book, and that's what people in this thread find disgusting.

Precisely. If I got "personal" (and I don't think I did), it was because the OP proved himself to be extraordinarily callous and ignorant of the facts on depression.

All Springsteen has ever done is entertain millions of people. I get that some people don't like his music or think his shtick is irritating and/or fraudulent (a multimillionaire rocker championing the working man), but to mock a man for opening up about his depression is despicable.

I believe him he road the depth of despair.
And I've always like Bruce.
And I can see where if I was accusing him of making up a mental illness
just to promote a book,
that would be disgusting (I've never been called disgusting before!)
I have a child with mental illness, it's nearly crippled me.
I am so sorry to upset people about this issue.

Fake working class shtick? He was raised in a poor, working class family and has been writing/singing about those experiences for his entire career. Once he "made it" was he supposed to stop writing about the experiences that shaped him as a person/songwriter? It's called empathy!

I just don't get what the animosity is all about on this site when it comes to Bruce. Yes, this is a board about the Stones who I love first and foremost, but Bruce is also right up there with them as far as great albums and memorable concerts. The man puts himself out there and appears to actually give a shit about his audiences (still touring, playing long shows, continuing to challenge himself-taking risks/releasing new material, etc). As fans, we need to cherish that these artists (including our beloved Stones) are still touring. There will come a time when these trail -blazers will not grace the stage and then we will all be bitching and moaning about it.

I think it comes down to two different and distinct things:

1. The Stones are all about sex, drugs, sleaze, and cynicism. They revel and wallow in it. Bruce is the opposite: he's earnest and heartfelt and tender. The tone in their music and lyrics couldn't be more different.

...secondly, and more importantly...

2. Pure jealousy. Let's face it: the Stones have been coasting for decades by riding largely the same goddamned 10-15 greatest hits for all they're worth. Springsteen still puts out relevant material and takes his audiences on an unpredictable rollercoaster of a journey EVERY show.

Four-hour sets? 80 unique songs played in three nights? Fan requests? Covers? Check.

We Stones fans only wish we could be taken on a musical journey by our heroes that way. People here will deny it 'til they're blue in the face, but they're jealous of the intimate relationship fans have with the E-Street band.
