To me, this song just IS the 60s (being a child, who could avoid listening to the grown ups` music on the radio?):

As one who started the 1960s as a Clueless White Kid From Glendale about to enter the 8th grade, and who ended the 1960s leaving the LA Forum early the morning of Nov 9 1969 having just seen the Stones live for the first time, I still carry around a sweet spot for Theme From A Summer Place. It was The Song of the Summer of 1960. It was a very innocent time for many of us who were about to wake up and look around at what was going on. Kicking off the 1960s with Theme From A Summer Place and wrapping the 1960s with Jumpin' Jack Flash and the Midnight Rambler. Wow!

I absolutely love his "Theme from 'Midnight Cowboy'."

If you haven't seen "A Summer Place", the movie is something else. The scenery - location - is beautiful. The story, some of the acting, well.... A great slice of 1950s era America from Hollywood in glorious technicolor. A guilty pleasure movie for sure.

Oh, you just gotta hear this one for good measure. It`s nor Percy Faith, but equally a part of that sountrack to my childhood:

Theme From A Summer Place? Yes, an early 1960s classic. This one? Sorry, noughties. I guess that's what makes a horse race.

Oh, fluck. If ya gonna listen to the New Christy Minstrels, listen to this one. Big hit and it's lead singer went on to record the track following this one along with being featured in a really offbeat and wonderfully cool 60s movie, The President's Analyst. Put the movie name in utoob's search box and there's clips of it available to look at. I occasionally see Barry McGuire's name noted in playbills for 60s revival shows playing at casinos and RV park clubhouses.
