grinning smiley ... but probably not if you're a Glaswegian !!

I'm sure there's many that would say the same about London.

Moral of story: each to theirs !!

Depending on your age and preferences, you could consider either The Park Bar or Nice 'N' Sleazy, in addition to ROLLINGSTONE's suggestion.

Glasgow is a place I been to once and is fine.
Not on my tick list to go to again though.
Edinburgh on the other hand is a great place for everything from sights, pubs, people and a whole lot more.
Been there half a dozen times and it is a great place and not far from Glasgow with good transport and road links. thumbs up

The first time I was in Glasgow I saw a drunk man punch a pigeon.
And no I'm not joking!

Hi Tony,

I come from Hamilton (scene of a riotous 1964 Stones gig - even Keith was scared), 12 miles from Glasgow but much prefer Edinburgh winking smiley I went to Edinburgh University and support Hearts smileys with beer

Glasgow's not bad and definitely on the up. Drinking is pretty safe and secure in the centre but be extra careful if ever straying out to the suburbs... The waterfront along the Clyde is much improved these days too.

I'm from Edinburgh so will always be bias, however Glasgow too is a great city with a buzz and vibrancy about it. The people are a bit more extrovert than Edinburghers ("You'll have more fun at a Glasgow funeral than an Edinburgh wedding" said Billy Connolly). Having a quiet beer in Glasgow - it is more likely that someone will engage you in conversation - whether you want to or not!

The city centre is lively with some excellent bars but I would echo the previous advice about avoiding the outskirts. The Merchant City is my favourite area, and I can recommend Babbity Bowsters or Blackfriars for excellent beer and a good atmosphere with occasional live music. They are a couple of minutes walk from each other - Babbity's is slightly harder to locate as it is in a side street.

If you go to the Scotia Bar look out for a photo of Ron Wood and a looky-likey on the wall. The guy was a barman there, and when the Stones played Glasgow he got his photo in the local paper. The Stones then invited him backstage and he got to hang out with them. I was hoping to have a chat but he no longer works there.

There is a great live music scene in Glasgow. Pick up a gig guide, available in many bars, and have fun. Some fantastic museums and art galleries too. They are mostly free.

Bless him. Pigeons are nothing but rats with wings.
