Such a great list, hard to argue with anything here. I'd probably add a few by Lowell George, Ry Cooder and Derek Trucks.

Sometimes a slide doesn't need a whole solo to tear me apart. When it comes in on this Lowell George tune all it takes is on or two notes to do the job. I think Lowell's electric slide tone was the best of the bunch, just amazing.

After Derek Trucks finishes his second solo (from apx 3:25 - 4:40) BB King (around 5:00) puts his hand on Trucks' shoulder and says "I think that's the best anyone's ever played that". I can't argue with BB.

Not sure if it's the best ever, but I'd put it on a short list.

Lovin' all the respect that Lowell George is getting.

Peace,
Mr DJA

The feeling is mutual pepganzo. I imagine you must be a guitar player to have such similar tastes. I'll share with you a secret weapon for slide work. I've been using one since the early 80's but was thrilled to find out from Sonny Landreth that it's also his secret weapon for slide work. MXR Dyna Comp.

Thank you Naturalust, I know that Lowell GeIorge used MXR Dyna Comp during the 70s.

I post here some informations about LG (from the book Rock N' Roll doctor) because we're talking about electric slide guitar.

Wow, that's awesome! Never knew Lowell also used the Dyna Comp. I've got a couple of them, one original 70's unit and one from the early 80's. I find they can be great on acoustic guitar too, when dialed down a bit.

I'll have to check out that book Rock and Roll Doctor.

Speaking of Lowell, did you like that Robert Palmer record he produced - Sneakin' Sally Through The Alley? That trio of songs Sailin' Shoes, Hey Julia and Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley has long been a favorite medley for me.

It is a fantastic record of course, he was also a good producer (but from the other hand I don't like the GD album that he produced in 1978).
I like also Bonnie Raitt's third album that initially LG try to produce.
This track is from her third album and Little Feat played here.

Didn't Keith use a slide on a 12 string for Monkey Man's solo?

Don't forget the some of the slower and cool lap steel and slide stuff from:

Gilmour: Echoes, Shine On You Crazy Diamond (latter parts), One of these days, Breathe

Howe: "Soon" (Gates of Delerium coda, way up past the frets)

Breathe, Soon and Love in Vain were the first 3 tunes I learned on slide, probably because they were slower, haha, and I could play them in standard tuning. Also,

Jeff Beck- Angel's Footsteps, Nadia, with its amazing middle eastern halftones and leaps, where slide, whammy and finger bends all blend into an indistinguishable mix

???- the guy on ultra-compressed/sustained lap steel on Dylan's Meet Me in the Morning

Joe Walsh- Rocky Mountain Way

2002 Gilmour reworking of Shine On (lap steel 0:00-3:30)

Howe on "Soon" start at 13:40 to end:

Beck @ Ronnie Scott's:

try any sol hoopii

The Lowell George Bonnie Raitt Paul B sound is a combo of TWO compressor set against each other and heavy flatwoud strings.

I tried that but the flatwould do not allow for the low scrap I like from wound bass strings. I do compress a bit more to even my bare finger attack than to SQUASH my notes til they sustain.
