Dammit, Olly, your secret identity must be Mr. McKenzie, my high school English teacher, finally determined to get me to read Shakespeare's bloody sonnets! Grrr... (I'm zeroing in on 129...)

OK I'm going to take a crack:

The buds were bursting and the air smelled sweet and strange
And it seemed about a hundred years ago

buds busting being both idle and aggressive and "remembrance" being a word from Sonnet #30. 30 shows on the 50 and Counting Tour. Also since 100 Years Ago immediately came into my mind before I had a clue about the clues and I've grown to trust these flash instincts.

I don't understand how I came up with that lyric to Don't Stop. Perhaps this stuff is too heady for me!

Is 50 & counting a Wyman-less tour?

That's a good question - but didn't they officially say they'd suddenly decided to start counting
from when Charlie joined (instead of the way they counted for the Licks tour)?
Which would make the 2012 shows stand-alones, not part of any tour. I think.
Gas Light Street, did you count the 2012 shows in the 50 & Counting total?

Obviously Olly needs to address there technicalities. smoking smiley

If Gas Light Street counted the 2012 shows in the total for 50 and Counting,
we can rule out Sonnet 30, since 2012 wasn't Wyman-less.
Give us a glimmer, Gas Light dear!

Fine attempt, Naturalust, but not the correct answer, I'm afraid. As I mentioned before, often more than one answer fits.... Although 50 & Counting wasn't Wyman-less...

The word you're looking for in the sonnets is reproduced verbatim in the song lyric. Consider a more flexible approach to the two words at the start of the clue.

You can disregard Sonnet 30, with sssoul.

Just a suggestion, because I'm starting to feel too dumb or unknowable to play this, maybe make the clues more like brain teasers instead of trivia questions? I don't know, I feel like requiring people to know or look up Shakespeare phrases is a bit too much for word game. Just a suggestion.

The sunshine bores the daylights out of me.

OK I'm thinking this has something to do with love disease and sonnet 147.

Wanderlust and love disease from Feel On Baby?

Yes, it's lazy of me in a way to fall back on a literary reference, but it's just what I know.

I've got some, including some already posted, that don't have any literary references. They can be difficult to come up with, especially as so many of the lyrics are well known, so it helps to have another reference to make it a bit more challenging by requiring a little bit of detective work.

The reference is narrowed down to only a few short poems, all readily available online, and the word is the same one used in the lyric, so there's no analysis or interpretation needed. Plus, it's possible to get the answer just from interpreting the first two words of the clue, potentially.

I like being nudged to read poetry - as long as there's not too much of it, you know what I mean :E

How about this for a flexible interpretation of those first two words:
Diamond rings, vaseline, you give me disease
(Following Naturalust to Sonnet 147, of course!)

Close, with sssoul...

'...to undergo' suggests a process and therefore a verb...

I gave you the diamonds / You gave me disease

I'm not sure if this was ever a lyric but Olly "give" is a verb and "gave" is obviously the past tense of that verb.

I'm sleepin, it's a beatin' idle & aggressive
Can't ya please request take it out, and preserve a verb in Sonnet 147 it right there in that jar?

Got it, with sssoul (only it's the 'It's sleepin...' line I had in mind, so that it's the same thing that is both idle and aggressive).

Thanks.

Oh... that's right! There were, what, 2 shows with Wyman? But he wasn't in the band. I'm guessing that's what Olly means. The 1993-now Stones regardless.

Yeah of course "it's" and "tear it out", but I was all giddy again.
Thanks for holding my hand on the way there, Olly! It was slippery as hell :E

Nice work, with sssoul! Where the heck was Green Lady for this instalment? Missed the drama...

Green Lady has been trying to persuade her tablet to log in to a hotel WiFi it considers insecure because its security certificate has run out - compared to which no clue of Olly's could be half as hair tearingly frustrating.

Or could it? I don't think I'd have got anywhere near that one.

Olly my dear, when can we look forward to another one?

That last one was slippery as hell, but once you clarified that the sonnet number = the number of shows,
I bet we could've gotten there in a few days. This is fun. Thanks for doing it.
