Can anyone help identify the venue/gig we're looking at here?
It's a screen capture from a snippet of footage that was aired by the BBC.
Sorry about the lousy quality and the uninformative angle, but it's all I've got.




It appears to be 1965 or early 66 (Australia maybe??).
I believe that pale Telecaster leaning on the amps was first sighted on a Stones stage in June 1965.
I'm hoping our esteemed, helpful, patient, learned and good-lookin gear geeks can narrow down the possibilities,
and/or that someone (gear-geekly or not) will recognize where it's from.
Intelligent guesses are very welcome too! Thank you kindly

Nzentgraf.de states that the footage is from the first Sydney show on January 22nd,
so that's a way-early sighting of the Stones with a Tele! Cool :E

Telecaster? Looks like the Vox teardrop for Brian and a Les Paul with a Bigsby for Keith. Maybe I'm missing something here.

Unless I'm seeing things, there's a Telecaster leaning on an amp behind Mick in the screen capture I posted.

There's a Telecaster leaning on the amp, on that screenshot that withsssoul posted. Mathijs would probably know this better, so my guess is that can be the white Telecaster that was bought by Keith in 1964 and that sometimes was used by Brian:



According to The Rolling Stones Gear (the book written by Andy Babiuk and Greg Prevost): "(on the September 2, 1964 studio session) Brian played a white Fender Telecaster, which actually was another recent addition to Keith's collection" (p. 137).

What I think is amazing is how different they were just 10 years later in 1975.... Or even 7 years later in 1972. Whereas if you think back 10 years to 2005 they are virtually the same as they are now.

Here's a screenshot from the video I posted above, on which the Telecaster can be seen. I'm pretty sure that the Brian pic with the Telecaster posted above was shot on the same concert, but I couldn't find any confirmation of it.

Well spotted!

The funniest thing about this video is to do with the soundtrack. Obviously the actual recording of what was being played wasn't available, so someone has tried to synch the vinyl version with the on-screen actions.

Done quite well actually.

BUT... the live version is much much faster than the official recording, so the audio has been speeded up, which makes Mick sound a bit like Tiny Tim!
