Crazy Mick !

This weekend I sat down and watched the DVD from the '81/'82 tour again; the official motion picture "Let's spend the night together".
In '82, I saw my first ever Rolling Stones concert, and the film made me bring up some great memories.
Wasn't it great to see Mick go crazy on stage.
Roll over, running from one side to another, stamp his feet, wearing great outfits, walk through the audience, going on a crane above the audience etc..
He was really being Mick !
Nowerdays he doesn't do that anymore and I can understand that.
It can't be fun to see a man, age 62 year, roll over on stage.
But it seems to me Mick has become a little bit shy; untill the BTB-tour at least he came down on the lower frontstage and sometimes shook hands with the people in the front row.
On the Licks tour ( at least in Europe ) he hasn't done that anymore also.
Maybe he thinks the B-stage is enough.
I really miss the old days !

For me the 81/82 tour was the best days of Mick on stage.

the '81 US tour was musically ok. Jagger looked silly, tho, in his bright yellow tights! His stage presence/performance was much more exciting in '72 and '75.

Ofcourse he looked silly, but he can do that.
I think he was in his best days of performing live, and everyone I spoke during the last tours agreed.
I agree also that he was great before ( according to video's ), but this tour I saw for myself, and it was ( and still is ) special.

No it will not be fun to see a 62 year guy rolling on the stage.
Mick nowadays is acting like his age, a well conservated man, but i agree( it whas also my first concerts), it whas very spontanion to watch.(sorry, hope i sayd that right)

That's what it was, spontanious.
Nowerdays it seems much more calculated.
But still great to see and hear.

I'm not sure he would ever admit it, but I think the audience has a bit to do with it. When the audience (and Keith) is animated and enthusiastic, it eggs him on. When they just sort of stand there, his moves tend to be more robotic.

ALso, if there is a sex song (Stray Cat Blues) or one he can act out (Out of Control, Midnight Rambler) as opposed to just lead, (YCAGWYW), the spontaneity returns!

I've noticed and then paid attention to this many time. So...get enthusiastic if you're up close!
