The '99 Memory Motel album
Posted by: bruno ()

I've read some comments about this about-to-release-but-finally-not 1999 album. From what I've read, it seemed some kind of attempt to open the vaults, but I'm not so sure... Could anybody please explain what this project was about? Why wasn't released back then??

Thanks in advance.

I think with the dismal sales of NS - they opted out for fear of another $$ failure. It was called Memory HOTEL (not motel). Songs like Fiji Jim (SG era out) were reputedly revamped with new vocals (much like So Young had been a few years earlier)....

I think Mick said they had plently of material to release a new studio album at the start of the Licks tour so I am sure that will be released somewhere, someday... Who knows how good it is but I would love to hear it.

My mother is a home nurse and takes care of one of Keith's neighbors (who refer to them as the Richards family). Maybe I should sneak into Keith's vaults and dig around.

Thing I dug about 'So Young' is how you notice Bill's presence right off, plus it's hilarious. (And I LIKE most of VL a lot)

yes - it has the requisite "penis" reference - apparently a hallmark of all true Stones classics.
