I think you are right, Sicilian. The chances of winning the grand prize is pretty much abysmal. The chances of being spammed due to entering the contest is however much bigger.
And sometimes you wonder if anyone actually wins these prizes...

Well, someone has to win. I entered contests from time to time for years. Then, during the Police's reunion tour I got a call telling me I had won two front row center seats to a Tokyo Dome show from the official website. That was amazing. However, I figure I probably used up all my luck and don't enter much anymore.
