My restriction on complaining is self-imposed. Hey, I'm human - of course I am going to complain when I see them again in Indianapolis on the 4th of July! Please, Mr. Leavell, Mr. Jagger - DO THROW ME A BONE - play SOMETHING I have not heard before! One thing. I ask so little! (I guess my initial comment should have been it appears pointless to complain) Our favorite band appears to be selling their shows quite well doing exactly what they are doing. They are operating under the idea that 'If it ain't broke - don't fix it.'

Seems a bit strange that Chuck would take credit for the setlist selection. Yes he has his book and notes and arrangements and such but I find it hard to believe he actually is responsible for the actual setlist choices.
More likely he suggests possible new additions, helps the band through trial runs of songs they haven't played in a long while and when Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ronnie say "OK let's do that one" he writes it down and compiles the list. He may be responsible for making the setlist but I think we all know it is much more likely Mick and the rest of the core group have the final say in what gets played.
Chuck would probably be the first to admit this if questioned in more detail about it. It just seems rather apathetic to me if the Stones actually let a sideman pick the songs. "We just play what Chuck tells us to play man, don't blame us".

i think the usual way is mick and chuck go through the list of songs and then send it to keith to sign off on or see if he wants to change anything.
i dont think anyone else has a say, despite what many believe mick and keith are the co-leaders of the band -chuck is a referee.
with the big shows it's tough to change too much because of the lighting and timing of everything so you get maybe a song or two different but thats about it.it's not like chuck is sitting there telling the band what to play.

Nice post. You seem like an honest guy with a sense of humor, and I'm a long-time Chuck basher also, but I'm sure if I met him I would like him. He does seem like a nice guy. Why not smile . . . he's on tour with the Rolling Stones! That's enough for a shit eating grin, even without being able to tell everyone how he's in charge.

well put. unfortunately, being nice has nothing to do with being qualified to be on stage with the rolling stones.

Everywhere you want I always go
I always give in because, babe, you know
You just say so 'cause you give me
That feeling inside that I know I must be right
It's the singer not the song
It's not the way you give in willingly
Others do it without thrilling me giving me
That same old feeling inside that I know I must be right
It's the singer not the song
The same old places and the same old songs
We've been going there for much too long
There's something wrong and it gives me that
Feeling inside that I know I must be right
It's the singer not the song
It's the singer not the song
It's the singer not the song

i'm ok with him being on stage, as long as we can't hear his piano playing. i haven't listened to SFTD at columbus but it was particularly painful in San Diego due to the piano.
