If They Want To Perform A Lot Of The New Album ....

.... then the September release date is a mistake. I remeber seeing them at the beginning of the Some Girls tour. The album was in stores, but only just a few days before. They played seven or eight new songs in a row, but except for Miss You, which had been out as a single for a few weeks, the crowd was hearing the new songs for the first time. Great songs, as we now know, but the crowd didn't know them and couldn't respond. Probably a moot point since they will likely play only two or three new ones anyway, but I hope they don't make that mistake again. Not much fun seeing the Stones and being surrounded by 50,000 QUIET people muttering "I don't know this one either."

I cant remember exactly when "some Girls" was released in 78
I saw the Show in Anaheim 24th of july--and I think most of the crowd knew their new-ones--

WE know them, but we are not typical Stones fans. Much of the crowd will be unfamiliar with anything more recent than Start Me Up.

Some Girls was released around June 12, a couple of days after the tour started. By the end of the tour, when you saw them, Miss You had hit #1 and the album had become something of a fad. People who had never owned a Stones record before in their lives were buying it.

Hopefully people will listen to all the new songs a lot before the tour and will be able to sing along instead of bitching!

People who are seeing them in August will not have heard the new album if it is being released in September.

I'm not sure about that. I think radio stations may have had THEIR copies and been playing tracks as early as June 5, but I don't think it hit the stores until June 11 or 12.

SG hit Billboard June 24th issue, so it had to have been out June 5th or 6th, if they were already putting everything out on tuesdays then in the US. Albums that hit the chart straight off always come out two saturdays minus four days back(Billboard issue dates are saturdays i.e 6/24/78) Oddly, I was preoccupied & it was the only RS album since Goats Head I didnt buy the day of release.

well but ... "can't sing along" sounds like a good thing to me.
people don't really go to Stones concerts to hear the audience sing, do they?
i mean: *i'm* allowed to sing along (that's obvious!) but not *every*body. :E

A lot of new people will be there because they loved Forty Licks, and there's some newer songs on there too. These casual listeners know that they will play songs that are new to them, be it old songs or new songs.

Lost of people going to the consert will already have listened to the 3 new songs and who knows maybe other songs will be on the net the next weeks or so.....

In 78 there was Internet to spread out the new songs.....

Agree with sssoul - I don't go to a Stones show to hear the audience sing or turn on the lighter.....

After the very good impression of RJ - I am sure Mick & Co are eager to show who is the greatest Rock band.....

I think we will have a fantastic tour.....

"New release Tuesday" is a modern invention. It didn't exist then. Maybe June 5 was the UK release date and June 12 the US date? I remember checking my store on a daily basis, and first saw it, and bought it, June 12, a Monday.

I think Miss You was out sometime around May 23. I remember singing the B-side, Far Away Eyes, to my friends, and cracking them up with it, long before the album was out. For several weeks, that was the only version of the song they knew. I didn't tell them what it was. I let them think I made it up!
