After standing in a ticketron line for 3 hours and not getting a ticket, I heard a 2nd 1972 LA Forum (afternoon) show get announced on the radio. I went straight to a post office and sent a special delivery letter for $1.60 with my $12 check. 2 floor tickets 8 rows back! I was 18 and a huge fan, but the show completely shocked me.
One thing we'll never see again are USC and UCLA football players as bouncers; they really knocked people around when they tried to rush the stage. Things are so much better organized now, and you have to give the Stones credit for helping create what we see now: speakers above the stage, better security, artistic stage sets..
Montreal(Forum), Oct.29, 1965. Almost 50 years ago now so memories are pretty faded. Total bedlam, lots of screaming, very poor sound - often hard to tell what song was being played with the exception of the more obvious riffs. Can't find the set-list for this show right now but it would have been very close to the following: She Said Yeah, Hitch Hike, Heart of Stone, Mercy Mercy, That's How Strong My Love is, Play With Fire, The Last Time, Good Times, Oh Baby(we got a good thing going), Get Off My Cloud and Satisfaction. Would be very content hearing the identical set-list today. I had a floor seat, about 30 rows back and my clearest memory of the show was that most of us on the floor were standing on the top of the seat backrests(chairs were bolted down) to try and get a view of the band - stages were quite low in those days. So, basically, couldn't see or hear much but had a helluva good time. That's it.
