Oh no ! My Old Friend The Blues was a fantastic late period album by Percy.

I offer my special prayer for him.

Sad news. I think the Stones could do a really great live version of "When a Man Loves a Woman".

I don't know. That particular performance is quite singular to Percy Sledge. I don't think I've ever heard a cover of it.

The one cover version I remember (from the '90's) of it I won't mention as it still hurts my ears to just think about it. It was a number one hit in the U.S. just like the original but I still hope I can live the rest of my days without ever hearing it again. Note: I don't encourage ANYONE to go looking for it.

Side Note: Trivia: What song followed Percy's version of When A Man Loves A Woman in the number one spot on the charts? Paint It, Black by the Rolling Stones.

Thanks again for the music, Percy.

Peace,
Mr DJA

Edit: I cannot be held responsible for the first video in DP's post above. I CAN be sure that I will never click the link though! I AM going to check out Joe Cocker's version so I can't be to upset... Just so long as autoplay never kicks in!

Peace
Mr DJA

I heard Jerry Lee Lewis do a great cover of it, or a reinvention of it, on his Southern Roots album.

Another trivia note: Percy's album Blue Night features Mick Taylor on guitar.

When A Man Loves A Woman - one of the greatest fluckin' soul songs ever recorded. To even put Michael Bolton or others up here, nahhh. Bill Murray (y'all know who he is) once called Sledge's When A Man Loves A Woman his most favorite song ever. Such a stone cold groove.

RIP Mister Sledge. You gave us one of the greatest songs a guy could ever devote to his loved one.

My father's band backed him up at a show in Tidewater, Virginia not long after I was born. He actually signed the little outfit I was wearing. He signed me! This is sad news indeed.

RIP soulman.

God I hate it when musicians (or anyone) die after "a long battle with cancer". Seems so painful and violent. Hoping more deaths could be peaceful and serene and if they are painful and/or violent let them be quick, man.

I hope the person who discovers a cure for cancer has been born already and pray their discovery comes soon. Reading about the suffering it has caused people on this board and their families is truly troubling.

peace
