Uncut is republishing on their website an old article from 2002 which features some great comments by other musicians (Joe Strummer, Johnny Marr...) on 40 Stones songs. Worth reading IMO.

Right. I've spent a good deal of time at reading all of it! But it was quite compelling.

I scratched my head a bit at Respectable, would have swapped that with She's So Cold.

Why does Andy Rourke talk about Bill Wyman's "bass playing" on SFTD? Anyway, Rourke was a beast on bass guitar.

What I find intersting is all these musicians grew up with Stones and obviously were heavily influenced by their music. I'm wondering if the poll results would be any different nowadays (if asking younger musicians)...

Good list. Maybe not Hot Stuff though...

would love to see mick and keith answer this with total honesty.
mick always seems to love the master takes that are a total suprise from the demo's.
he would probably rate sympathy #1 and shattered #2.

If they just do a set comprised of songs 1-24, it would be and amazing concert. I stopped at 24 as that is the max I could ever see them doing now, Plus 25 is Child Of The Moon, which does nothing at all for me.

That's a hell of a top 10. Bloody fantastic when you consider honky Tonk ain't in it! Nor Midnight Rambler? Odd exclusion from a top 40! Shocking actually. And no coming down again or salt of the earth? Easy top 40 tracks. Those 3 in and get rid of shattered, have you seen your mother... And hot stuff.

Really no Midnight Rambler. For me that song defines the Stones. Yet I Just Wanna See His Face is on here.

Of course it's a bs list. After all, the only relevant list is a personal one. Simple as that.

With that being said, I'ts hard to disagree with the top 3 from Uncut.
