It's time for that article again?
Probably the author found it funny to publish because of MT 70 years b-day.

The word 'replace' would be appropriate were it a like for like change.

Taylor joining was essentially the birth of a new band.

So after 229 pages - I have learned that Taylor was not on the final cut of Brown Sugar only on the outtakes? and his guitar was cut on rocks off except they kept is outro solo - Funny If you ask Trey Anastasio of Phish his first response to Rocks Off is Taylor's outro solo in an interview he did.

Seems like his guitar is on Rocks Off, after all (down in the mix). Before the outro as well. The Hopkins-tapes revealed that.

He's not on Brown Sugar.

I was referring to on the bridge on( rocks off) the F#M chord to start the bridge wasn,t taylor doing some noodling(LOL) on some outtakes ? or was it his noodling only on live 72/73 recordings?

Listen to Brown Sugar, Essen 1970, about one year before the official release. He's there.

I didn't have a point. Merely confirmed Open G's assumption that Taylor didn't make the final mix of the studio version.

Quite a kick in the stones to be mixed out of a key release.

Only goes to show the so called golden period would be golden almost regardless of who was in the third man spot.

A competent contributor was all that was required. The songs and the core reliable Rolling Four mostly had it covered.

Unfortunately his leads on Brown Sugar are only on live recordings. However they are amazing.

That is true - But Taylor's contributions were amazing especially live taking them to another level. We all have been listening to music all these years and I have not come across a guitar player like Taylor with his vibrato and pharsing. Yes we had Clapton and the Beck and all the rest - but the test for me is a could listen to Taylor all day and not get bored I can not say that for the other guitar gods.

It's very insignificant to put a time frame on Brownn Sugar, at least to me. The version that some individual likes most is all that matters, be it you , me or somebody else. Jagger came up with the embryo if I remember it well. I have to agree with HM that the most commercial version is on S Fingers. And indeed, played with Keith tuned in open G, not stale yet, in those days.

Indeed, but I was just talking about the studio version, because OpenG talked about the studio versions of Rocks Off and Brown Sugar.

There are many brilliant live versions, of course.

I'll make an exception for royalty, but generally it's considered impolite to call attention to pharsing.

Agree. Brian had his own thing going. Both versions of the band were great. The more I listen to the songs with Brian the more I come to appreciate how magnificent they were. Ruby Tuesday is like classical music

Heard Bernard sing it at the Tim Ries show in Amsterdam a few years ago. Best version I've ever heard.

Satisfied since 1976

Due to the brilliance of the arrangement of Ruby Tuesday, the music already suggests what the vocal/lyrics do and also leaves things open other melancholic interpretations.
