Post-war Great Britain was not a wealthy nation. The Stones are kind of shrimpy due to the rationing of rich foods such as meat and dairy. Perhaps someone who is more knowledgeable can expand on this. Children these days are fat. In this photo I see mostly skinny children in good physical condition. No eyeglasses either due to good all around health. And if you needed them your parents might not be able to afford them.

<<Children these days are fat.>>

Largely due to sedentary modern behaviors, like sitting at the computer in addition to in front of the TV. Dietary influences can be overrated. Around 1900, Western culture had a very starchy diet but weren't obese because of the more physical nature of labor and the longer working days--there was less time for sedentary behavior. When you're sitting still, you only burn 125 calories per hour, and half that much while sleeping (depending on your weight), so if you're taking in 2,000 to 3,000 calories a day, then it's going to add up somehow.
