I was in a group that were told we could support Bill Wymans Rhythm kings T the Holmfirth Picturedrome in 2008. Sadly it all fell apart on the day.
We got free entry to the show as a consolation.
The moment Eddie Floyd burst onto the stage (I had not known he was involved) is one of my favourite ever moments in a gig.

I’m having lunch on Friday with a woman who used to work with me 30 years ago in Perth. She’s over from where she now lives, the Gold Coast in Queensland.

Her brother Peter was in the Boy Scouts with both Mick and Keith w-a-y back when!!

Were Mick and Keith in the boy scouts together? I've never heard of that. Or is it like a Dick Taylor situation where he went to school with both Mick and Keith but at different times?

Well, I'm sure I have read that Keith was a member of the local Scouts group. I'm unsure about Mick. It was certainly very popular in the 1950's.

Mick would have been in the year above Keith at primary school. Was Dick Taylor at the same primary school?

No Dick went to grammar school with Mick and art school with Keith.

Dartford Grammar, then. Quite an exclusive school, these days. Good luck getting a spot, even if you pass the 11-plus and reside in the catchment area!

I have been listening to their albums for over 50 years and seen them over 300 times in concert.

I do not feel any separation unless the CD is over.

I met with Mick Jagger twice, actually long encounters and they are my best memories to date! I also have a good friend who has an " IN" with the band and I was invited to the Stones' after-party during No Security at the Four Seasons in Philly where I met Lisa Fischer, Bobby Keyes, all of the brass section and had a long chat with Lisa and Chuck Leavell. Sat & had a drink with Lisa and talked with Chuck about his old band Sea Level. He is as sweet as they get! Lisa told me she " should be paying the Stones for the honor of being on stage with them"! It was one of the best nights of my life!

I was in the Scouts, too. I recollect a torrid time, spent at some godforsaken campsite in Nottinghamshire, circa 1997.

This subject is really about "Six degrees of separation" and not about Boy Scouts <insert smiley>. Here's my try..

1 I used to be pally with someone I'll call TB
2 TB's Great-Uncle was called Gavrilo Princip
3 Gavrilo Princip murdered Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand (and thereby triggered WW1)
4 Arch Duke Franz Fedinand was related to Queen Victoria (inbred European Royal families!)
5 Queen Victoria is related to King Charles III
6 King Charles was married to Princess Diana
7 There's a photo of Princess Diana chatting to Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman in a receiving line at some sort of event.

OK. it's 7, but I do get to two Original Rolling Stones

Wow, I'm more interested in the connection to Gavrilo.
Did TB have any old family photos of him or anything like that (not them together, but I mean any family memorabilia)?

Don't know, but one of my co-workers is the son-in-law of one of the original Temptations. (I live in SE Michigan, where virtually everyone can claim some sort of Motown connection, be it real or imagined) grinning smiley

This is funny,,,

Back in 1980 I talked to Alexis Korner, among other topics about the Stones. He was the kindest person you could ever imagine.

Around 2000 I had a conversation with Mick Taylor who is a very nice guy, actually, after a gig at Friedrichshafen near Lake Constance, Germany.

After the Rolling Stones concert at Stuttgart in 2006 we left immediately after the last note of the last song, and I saw the Stones for a very short moment as they where whisked away all together in a microbus. During these few seconds they looked like a local band who drive home from a gig. No limos, no groupies...

While posting in another thread I realised that I can beat my own 7 step link.

1 I've met and talked with Paul McCartney (proper conversation)
2 Paul McCartney definitely knows all of The Rolling Stones.

Got there in 2 that time.

This is a funny thread and made me think:

1. Once met Mick Taylor before a club concert while sitting at the bar, short talk... (he mostly was concerned about his Whiskey).
2. Also met Dick Taylor, talked about Little Red Rooster, he gave me his autograph on a Pretty Things CD.
3. A nice guy we know was the art agent of Ronnie Wood.
4. A friend of ours in Washington (DC) was intern at the White House, he knows Barack Obama (who met Mick at the Blues concert @WH).
5. A bootleg dealer we know sold some drugs to Bobby Keys back in the days.
6. Sally Wood just sent my wife a book she wanted to get rid of (kind of lottery at Instagram).
7. Met Axel Zwingenberger, band mate of Charlie's (we actually have two rare t-shirts of ABC&D of Boogie Woogie with the signatures of all band members)
8. Last year, we walked by the Nellcote villa @Villefranche-sur-Mer - and still felt their presence...
9. We once had lunch @Sticky Fingers in London, and otherwise have an intensive business connection with the band via Carnaby St. No. 9 (but I guess these things don't count winking smiley

I sent my book on fans You Get What You Need (Amazon.com) to four of the Rolling Stones. One went through someone who had Keith's address, but I have no idea if any of them got it, much less looked through it or read it. I left copies in person for the backup musicians/Band 2 at a club in Ohio where they were playing.

i met Ronnie once before his art show in Las Vegas.
And...in London, someone I had come to know invited me to one of Ronnie's birthday parties. I didn't go, due to another obligation I thought I had that fell through. That was a big regret of mine, missing that.

My friend met Keith in Antigua in 1991 - first in the bathroom of a restaurant where he heard someone sniffing *something* in the stall (a lot of something), then heard the sound of someone banging around, so he knocked on the door to ask if everything was ok, and heard a gruff British voice say:"Yeah, mate, I'm alright". The door then opened and Keith came out.

After dinner, my friend (a musician, and not the star struck type) was walking down the beach and ran into Keith again who chatted with him for a bit until some uberfan came along and started yelling and jumping up and down and pissed Keith off.

Ditto The Allmans in my part of the world.

Ex.: My cousin knew guy who changed the oil in Duane's motorcycle once and walked Gregg's dog.

Okay here goes....

1) At the Edinburgh Festival there was a comedy play about an uber-fan kidnapping Mick Jagger. During the play, the screen came on and a recording of Mick reading a ransom note was shown. I noticed that Matt Clifford was in the audience with friends so after the play finished, I approached him and asked if he enjoyed it. He told me he had had a hand in arranging Mick's cameo appearance.

He was very friendly but I think he was puzzled as to who I was and I suspect he thought I was somebody of some importance (I'm not). Even when I explained I was merely a Stones fan, he was chatty and his friends seemed interested. I shook his hands and said my goodbyes because I had a friend waiting for me who had urged me to leave him alone! Had I been on my own, I got the impression I would have been welcomed into Matt's company for a drink or two...

2) Doing my job, I met and kept in touch with a member of Rod Stewart's band. He got me free tickets and backstage passes for a gig. Met him years later for a few beers. He has met all of The Stones, Ronnie more than once. He sent me a photo of him, Rod and Ronnie which I have filed next to a photo of him and me.

3) Did a road trip to Miami to see the Stones there. In the famous News Cafe for beer and pizza with our Stones gear on beforehand and the waiter said "Hey, you guys should have been here this time yesterday. Yer man Mick Jagger was in with his son and his bodyguard".....we had debated arriving the day before but chose not to.

That's all folks!

At the Palace Hotel in Madrid I met Bobby, Chuck, Lisa and Bernard getting off the bus that was bringing them from the airport. I asked them for autographs, they were all very friendly and approachable. Each of the Stones were in their own vehicle but another day I got Charlie's autograph twice. He was the only one who left through the hotel main door like any other guest. Very friendly too.

Just a couple weeks ago I went to see a chiropractor for the first time and he was on staff when the Stones played Halifax, NS and said he spent some time talking with Keith.

When I lived in Ontario I worked with a guy who bred horses and had sold some to Charlie's wife, Shirley. He said Charlie would sometimes answer the phone but I don't think he had any extensive conversations with him.
