Bit Torrenting in '05 - highly recommended

For those of you yet to dip into the intoxicating waters of BT technology - let me suggest to you that you begin your journey now in preparation for the upcoming tour. Check out dimeadozen.org and bootcity for starters. There's plenty o' help on both sites to get your started. you certainly need a high-speed connection. but, if you're into collecting Stones (or anyone else) shows - this tour figures to be the first in the modern BT technology. What that means is that you will have access to collecting audience recordings - often within a matter of days (sometimes hours) of the actual event. Many of us former CDR traders have sworn off trading in favor of BT's. There's just no hassle or wait time anymore.

I'm making this suggestion that some of you BT newbies get started understanding how to do this and practice it a bit before the 8/21 opener. Those of you who have relied on trading to keep up with the shows may find that many/most of the traders/tapers have moved on and won't bother trading anymore.

Personally - I amassed perhaps upwards of 1000 shows on CDR over the years. Since I started downloading torrents in earnest in October, I've probably collected at least that many in just 7 months. Truly intoxicating. It's fun, it's easy - it's the wave of the present and future.

Wow - I didn't know that. Bummer. Hopefully, some vacancies (or expansion of users) will occur soon.

ezt is quite difficult to get into now, and has been since it has been capped for months now...

which is one of the main reasons that rocks off set up their own tracker - it is open to all...

[rocksoff.kicks-ass.org]

only lossless stones sources will be hosted there. in fact there are five shows up there right now - 3 AUDs from 78, 1 from 2002, and one from 1972...

but anybody with a liberated boot, or any other lossless stones source that is not commercially available, is encouraged to upload a torrent, and seed there, with hopes of reaching as many stones fans as possible...

I can't wait for the Ronnie and Fiends gig to be available for download!

Btw - if you have a download limit you should be careful with downloading bit torrent files - they are quite big :-)
But it's a great think - definitely the futur of file sharing!

The problem I have with Bit Torrent is the speed that stay between 10 and 30 kb/s . When I download from Rockpassion, the speed is around 55 kb/s.

ride like the wind (4 disc set from 1981) is up now, along with three AUD sources from 1978. more to come later today, as well...

all lossless, no lossy in the lineage.

Yeah, different source. Recorded from a wonderful fellow Stones fan with a mini disc player and a proper microphone. I already listened to bits of it after the concert in London, it sounded very good.
(Thanks Gary )

T&A and macdaddy, how does this work exactly? I realize that this is the new way. I have on purpose stayed with the oldfashioned boots because I love the whole idea; It's like buying a new album. But it sounds too tempting and intoxicating to get them that quick.
I hear gazza say that the quality isn't as high. How do I know which show it is?
On roxoff's site I see it listed by date. Is that right?

The new site seems promising, but ain't there an info section before picking the torrent in order to know exactly what's in it???

Can I upload something to there (RocksOff)?

Re: Bit Torrenting in '05 - highly recommended

Please do!! The whole point is to share as much of the music as we can!

As long as its not lossy (mp3 etc), anyone is welcome to upload shows.

If youre doing so, please post the info on the relevant thread on the message board

Thanks for any contribution you can make

of course! Thats the whole point of the site. Exclusively Stones (and Stones related, ie solo, guest appearances) torrents.

There are torrent sites devoted exclusively to other major artists such as U2, Dylan, Bowie, REM, Led Zep, Springsteen, etc. - so I think a Stones one is overdue.

So as a newbie once you have downloaded a Bit Torrent what software do you need to play - or copy to disc?

Re: Bit Torrenting in '05 - highly recommended

I can DL from there (RocksOff), but I cannot go to web-site. When I try to do that I got error text "Yhteys estettiin" which is finnish and means pretty much same than "connection refused".

Anybody else has problems? Or is it just me?

I am talking about RocksOff web-site, not tracker site.

TO PLAY FLAC FILES : FOOBAR 2000 - it's 100% free. Just search for it on Google

TO BURN FLAC FILES : if you have Nero, go the Flac page : [flac.sourceforge.net]
and look for the plugins. If you have Nero Reloaded, the plugins are directly in the software

If you don't have Nero, get a free software called Flac Frontend, which will be able to encode WAV to Flac or to decode Flac to WAV, which all burners recognise.
