Aimee Mann and Exile

The new Aimee Mann album is really excellent much more rocking than her previous stuff. There are a couple of songs where you can hear echoes of "Shine a light" and "Tumbling Dice". I think fans of the classic early seventies period will really like this record. Infact while listening to it I couldnt help wishing the Stones would write such great songs for the new album.

Aimee Mann is a songwriting genius...criminally neglected and undervalued.

I think this album ("the Forgotten Arm") showed up in a recent thread. Great album that has not left my player in a while.

I've been playing, "The Forgotten Arm" on CD repeat since I received it two weeks ago, Chelsea. Got it on Ebay for around USD 13.00, shipping inclusive. It's brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Mainly, it's the track separation that likens it to The Beatles' work '65 through '69.

Yes - brilliant is absolutely the word. I love when someone writes the lyrics out and they run like prose.

Wow - seems like an album that's worth buying!
Would you say that "The Forgotten Arm" is her best album so far?

Yes, keith it is her new one. It's a concept album about her affirt with a Vietnam vet, addicted to H.. It quite a journey I found.
But I don't know if I would say it is her best. It is her latest, it's as far as she has ventured today. So maybe it is her as her best so far. But all her stuff is worth getting IMO.
Man, I am listening to the Stereophonics right now. I have been avoiding them for some reason. They are excellent. wasn't Ron playing with them at times?

If you've never seen her live before, she's on tour this summer and it's really great to see her live at least once; she's very relaxed and fun onstage. And the between song comments she makes are hysterical!

"MAGNOLIA" is the best of AIMEE. LOST IN SPACE AND THE NEW ONE ARE EXACTLY THE SAME (musicaly) but not so good. "BACHELOR NUMBER 2" IS GOOD and "I'M WITH STUPID" IS GOOD ALSO . The two last are (musicaly) boring.

I bought the cd and tickets for the paradiso.
she's cool, she's special, she looks good.

I;m anxious to see her .
What a great album - fantastic way of writing songs. Powerfull piano - learning some USA expressions (midway !!) but not able to figure out everything.
Just curious Chelsea Drugstore: how do you know John was a vietnam vet ??
Is cotton Candy slang for heroin ??

The guitar solo's are "in your face".

I don't think cotton candy is slang for junk. Midway is like a carnival w/sideshows and concessions that sell cotton candy, popcorn, corndogs, &c. Ask your English teacher, Schuine; he won't steer you wrong.

Shezeboss, you're entitled to your opinion, however stuffed it may be...

I like "Goodbye Carolyne", it kind of remind me of "Torn And Frayed"...
Also the drumming somehow reminds me of Charlie...
