Er, the 1989 version are breakneck-speed compared to 2014 smiling smiley

Those are practically almost exactly the same tempo!

I measured the tempos:

1989 version - 120 bpm

2014 version - 119 bpm

NICE!! Thanks for pointing that out.

But is it correct, when you hear the first minute of each song?

I didn't bother to count them, just nodded my head and they seemed practically the same. Hilarious that it was ONE beat per minute different!

That is hilarious indeed smiling smiley

But if one beat per minute is all that separates the tempo in the beginning of these two songs, I'll eat my... whatever.

I listened to the front half, when the vocals are going, in the same spot with both and they seemed almost exactly the same.

I know the end changes usually.

Now if you had said Midnight Rambler is plowing a field slow compared to how it was in the 1970s (and maybe the STEEL WHEELS tours) I'd agree with you 100%.

I wonder what the tempo of TD from Brussels 1973 is. 105 bpm?

All of these versions increase heavily in tempo. Maybe with the exception of the 1989 version.

I've never done that BPM thing.

It seems that JJF and SFM and Brown Sugar (even Gimme Shelter!) were insanely fast in the early 1970s and then later, JJF got slowed down a bit to sound like it was being played by The Molasses Stones in 1975 and 1981 and worse and worse ever since. Brown Sugar has somewhat maintained a decent speed over the years somehow.

This is JJF from 1989. Pretty fast smiling smiley

I measured the finale: 1989: 121 / 2014: 122

Wouldn't bet on the accuracy of the measurement, I used the tap tempo function of the metronome of my phone, but I would say that they are quite the same

I prefer the band today over many of the 80's, 90's versions. When I look back at some stuff it looks dated and the versions of many tunes are far faster in tempo from the originals. This last version of them we are seeing now is more sober, Mick has never sounded better and the guitars are loud, crunchy and unapologetic. I'd place this tour ahead of most I've seen... The TD from Shanghai is really good. The Exile version is hard to compare to anything but the outro here has some dynamics and tension...
