Don't laugh, this is serious business.

Actually, I was thinking about AC/DC and how much I liked Bon Scott as a vocalist, and it struck me, I wonder how he stacks up against Mick?

Now, I know the two aren't comparable at all, HOWEVER when you look at some of the great songs/vocals we had from Bon in a 5 year period, it's really quite remarkable AND he really I think holds his own vs. some of Mick's songs during the period.

Sorry my friend, that belongs to another thread. Actually, it would probably be merged to this thread so why don't you concoct your own 'blow by blow'...let's see how the ratings go!

What about the 80's? Mick's harsh "growling" vocal style vs. Brian Johnson?

I love the story when the Young brothers asked him to join and was thinking drummer and they said something like no, your the singer.

He was a great frontman but there may never be a better frontman than MJ.

Yeah I think that's right. MJ sort of invented the R'n'Roll frontman, incorporating from everybody.

He's pretty hard to top. I think there's some argument for Freddie Mercury in terms of stage presence, and of course the voice, but I think MJ prevails.

While I stand by my original ratings, I'd also add that Hand of Fate vs. TNT is a bit of a toss up.

I'm wondering if we should use this thread to dig a little deeper.

Here's a proposal, who's better on their best 'side' instrument, Mick or Bon.

For Mick, I give you his harp on Midnight Rambler:

For Bon, I give you his bagpipes on It's A Long Way To The Top If You Want To Rock'n'Roll:

Hard to pick, I know. Winner by a nose, Mick.

Re: MICK vs. BON, the numbers are in...
Date: June 3, 2014 00:52

Bonus point for the bagpipe. Then again, Mick is a mean maracas player...

OK, not getting too many takers on this thread so far, so obviously we need to consider broadening the scope just to be more inclusive.

How about this, Rolling Stones vs. AC/DC by album?

First up, Sticky Fingers vs. Back In Black. Sticky sold around 4 million world wide.

Back in Black, over 50 million. Gulp.

Let's go in track order, for simplicity.

SIDE ONE

Brown Sugar vs. Hells Bells = closer than you think, but we must go with Brown Sugar

Sway vs. Shoot To Thrill = again close, got to go with the Stones on this one.

Wild Horses vs. What Do You Do for Money Honey = ok, stones trifecta here.

Can't You Hear Me Knocking vs. Given The Dog A Bone = I wanted to give this to AC/DC, just for the title, but stones again, no comparison.

You Gotta Move vs. Let Me Put My Love Into You = OK, let's say this is AC/DC by a hair, again, just for the title.

SIDE TWO

Bitch vs. Black In Black = wow...so very difficult this one. Bitch by a nose.

I Got The Blues vs. You Shook Me All Night Long = finally an ease one, AC/DC

Sister Morphine vs. Have a Drink on Me = morphine vs. alcohol. Alcohol.

Dead Flowers vs. Shake A Leg = close, but have to go with Dead Flowers

Moonlight Mile vs. Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution = easiest choice in the matchups.

OK, so by a score of 7 to 3, we have a clear winner, Sticky Fingers!

Never let tens of millions of album sales difference influence your decision, sticky is the better album!

How can you even compare the two? Completely different styles and completely different songs. Ones a shrieker while the other's more of a shouter live.

Love that photo, just hilarious! I wonder how the guy in the Genesis shirt made out that night--probably still has those jeans stored away somewhere, in a box, a bag, or a case, with the unopened condom packet still in one the pockets.

Yeah I think. The Jack is a pretty silly song if you think about it. Mind you, I thoroughly approved of the rash of (female) breast flashing the song seemed to produce in the audience when I saw AC/DC a couple of years back (duly relayed to the big screen). Hard to see Fool to Cry provoking a similar reaction

Haha that's hilarious. That is probably the most dorky band shirt you could wear at an AC/DC concert in 1975 (or maybe a Rush-shirt)
