This is the first song I heard him sing, and I thought this was awesome. And still is.

He turned 70? Interesting, because he's sounded 70 since he turned 27.

I saw him in 1977 Palais Theatre Melbourne. Nicky Hopkins, Bobby Keys, Jim Price along side. Probably his peak period

I love JC--I saw him at a show at the Albert Hall in 1968, with the Grease Band (the Stones were in the audience), and he was terrific, but he went on to become even better on the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour. What a voice. Hitchcock Railway from his second solo album (I think) is one of my favorite things ever.

I last saw him in 2001 (I think) as an opening act for the Guess Who...he was still great then.

His Mad Dogs and Englishmen album is one of my all time favorites. His singing on that album is in the same class as my all time favorite soul singers Otis Redding, Sam Cooke and Ray Charles.Great band on that album too.Leon Russell had put that band together and he's the one who made all the great arrangements. Joe never sounded so good!

Joe was such a good sport onstage singing with (the late) John Belushi after Belushi imitated him and made us laugh so many times! smileys with beer

I like him. In doses.
I think his redention of "With A Little Help From My Friends" is one of those rare instances were he out-performs The Beatles' own version.
(I Wanna Be Your Man by 'Our Group' is the same ;-) )
But, as I said, I like him in doses. His musical style is not always favourite here. No question on his vocal-talent, though.

Joe Cocker under arrest for possessing marijuana in 1972

October 1972. Joe Cocker given four hours to leave the country

After a concert in Adelaide on October 13, Cocker got high backstage with a little help from his friends, booze and marijuana.
He was in bed fast asleep when police raided his motel room at 10am the next morning and arrested him and six of his entourage for possession, took them down to the station and locked them up.

Cocker pleaded guilty and was bailed for $1000. But at Festival Hall five days later, Cocker yelled out: "In five years marijuana will be legalised in Australia, and the same cat who is trying to throw us out now will be smoking it himself ."

The next day immigration minister Jim Forbes gave Cocker four hours to leave the country. Marijuana is still not legal, but Cocker has toured Australia another 10 times
