Nothing particularly insightful here, just some thoughts.

Excellent move...I think more posters should do a preventative self-dissing when recognizing their own subpar post, thus disabling those who would pounce on it themselves.

You have to admire that.

What if Mick Taylor had played with Sinatra on those last tours?

Perhaps Sinatra went on a bit too long, as he was rumored to have Alzheimer's and that's why he couldn't remember lyrics on stage toward the end.

"My funny turpentine, sweet comic Frankenstein...."

Saw him in concert in 1982 and really enjoyed it.

Don't know if the OP realizes it, but Frank passed away 16 years ago today.

RIP, Frankie! Remember reading how he stated in his will anyone who contested it would be excluded.....

I remember reading a story back in the 80s in a tabloid maybe that Frank and Mick were on the same elevator in a hotel, and Frank didn't acknowledge Mick at all. And when Mick left the elevator, he mockingly sang "he did it his way" or something to that effect.

Can't find it online but I swear I read that somewhere years ago.

believe I read same story....sounds like sore & poor feelings....eye popping smiley

...I thought you had a bootleg of Frank doing 'The Last Time' or something.

Ha! I wish there was video with this, as Piscopo's physical impression is pretty good too. This is Joe Piscopo as Frank, doing, among others, "Under my Thumb". UMT starts at 1:20 in the medley, but the rest is worth listening to as well.

Joe Piscopo was great as Sinatra which he did more than a few times on SNL. I have not heard this for years. Thanks!

Hilarious version of Under My Thumb with Frank style lyrics

Sinatra was a great, great singing talent who unfortunately got jealous of the young acts. It diminished him. Sammy was smart and got with the new blood.

<<Sammy was smart and got with the new blood.>>

He also extended his cultural visibility to further eras through television appearances, the most memorable being an appearance on the U.S. sitcom All In The Family in 1972.

I saw Sinatra in concert in his later years—dragged along by a parent—and liked him all right. He told a couple good jokes. Before he did SOMETHING I was more amused than annoyed when he said, "The next song is a Beatles song but it's a great one."

I will say I disagree with the Stones-in-decline premise that started this thread. I listen to One More Shot and Doom and Gloom regularly—when exercising, driving, everything—and love them both. I sing and play Doom and Gloom and it's not an easy song to sing with Mick growling most of the song and all those syllables. He's singing great these days.

And the two Stones shows I saw last year in Anaheim were just brilliant. And Mick was as limber as a 14-year-old gymnast and slim as one, too. (Sinatra wasn't exactly the skinny boy from Hoboken the last half of his life.)

No way the Stones have declined. This version (with Mick Taylor) is as good as it gets. Maybe when they get into their eighties we can then start comparing them to Sinatra.

I love this song and performance. The band cooks. This was a very good show as well. Frank loves Ella and it shows.

They really should just do a residency in Vegas at this point. They're already doing a Greatest Hits tour. Let the tourists come in and see them, then head out to the buffet and craps tables.

Sinatra reminding of the Stones...

This reminds me of one Beavis and Butthead episode. The dudes were watching a video of old Sinatra singing, with the following dialogue:
- look, that dude is old
- yeahyeah
- he must be one of those Rolling Stones..

>grinning smiley<
