Yes - known as The Angels here, Angel City overseas. Another great band who unfortunately have splintered into two (?) bands due to issues. The lead singer, Doc Neeson is currently in poor health unfortunately.

Hurray! I saw You Am I when they were putting out eps & I'm still hooked. The rest of the world's loss.

If I said who I liked & who I've seen, it would be too long a list. But for a 41 year old I consider myself lucky being in oz. Exposed to whatever was happening overseas via countdown & sounds, plus had our own great bands/solo artists......

Cold Chisel - they've been overplayed, but were great
Richard Clapton - Goodbye Tiger
Easy beats
Loved Ones
Inxs - before Kick
Hoodoo Gurus
Church
Midnight Oil - before Blue Sky Mine
AC/DC
Tim Rogers solo
Bob Evans & Jebadiah
Rose Tattoo
Stars
Paul Kelly
Dingoes
Divinyls

I'll stop there.....

Thanks for mentioning the Divinyls. Christine Amphlett had personality to spare.

I'm very enthusiastic about Australian (and New Zealand) bands.

I'd like to add one more I don't believe I saw mentioned: Died Pretty. 'Doughboy Hollow' still kicks my behind.

She was great, as was the whole band in the 80s. Remember seeing them at all-ages gigs as a teenager. The boys were too scared to shout out anything! But great band - Chrissie plus Mark on guitar couldn't be beat....

Should have added them - love DC - and they were one band where you'd always see the members in the street. Unless I misidentified, bought wine from Brett in a bottle shop. An excuse to add - The majority of oz artists make no money - unless they're extremely successful overseas, which is rare.....& a gamble.

A fair number of these performers have discovered the Folk & Roots Festivals such as Port Fairy & Maleny & are doing cut down acousticy gigs either solo or with one or two sidemen at these & smaller venues. Just spent an enjoyable afternoon with Jimi Hocking playing solo at the Molesworth pub (just north of Melbourne) & he mentioned the Screaming Jets are doing a little tour later in the year.

A fair number of them are also passing on, Bill Putt from Spectrum while chopping wood last August...

Nick Barker is another great Aussie artist.

I'm. A big fan of a nicks, love his music.

He is a big Stones fan, always sneaks in a cover or two in his set.

He also puts on the Stones shows in Melbourne.
Last year was Goats Head Soup and this year, same weekend as Stones in Melbs, he and some musos are rumored to play the entire Black n Blue album, plus faves.

Mandu, NZ has produced a lot of great talent, but to me Dragon was the best thing ever to come out of NZ, they were awesome. A long time ago I met and talked to Dave Dobben(excuse my spelling if it is wrong) and heard some of his material and it was good, but I think that Footrot Flats thing did not do him any favours, punters can be very fickle, especially in OZ. Send some more talent this way please.

The Chills. Wonderful music.

Do Flight of the Conchords count? I do like those guys a lot even though they are parody/comedy. At least they write and perform original songs.

I think Neil Finn is one of the most gifted songwriters the world has ever produced. I just saw him in Toronto on his Dizzy Heights tour and he was amazing. He did a great selection of songs from across his career - 3 or 4 Split Enz songs, a handful of Finn Brothers songs, and lots of Crowded House and solo songs. I think he's almost up there with Brian Wilson and Paul McCartney in terms of melody. His lyrics are great too.

I play-in Australia-in band I call the Edith Grove Cadets. We don't play very often but when we do people ask me how I came up with the name, even Stones fans. No ones worked it out yet

Early in College I picked up an album by an Australian band called "Kings of the Sun". Lots of fun, rock & roll on that album. I still look them up regularly on Amazon.com just to see if that album has been re-released. My cassette copy wore out years ago.

Peace,
Mr DJA
