Bill Wyman Signed Book- Real Signature?
Date: April 21, 2014 22:18

Hello everyone! Longtime visitor, first time posting! smiling smiley I recently bought a signed first edition copy of Bill Wyman's Stone Alone book. It cost $90 USD. It appeared to have had about three price drops, and I recall seeing it in the store around November 2013. The store was the local Half Price Bookstore, a nice used book store. (They appear to be a national franchise-here's the website: [www.hpb.com]) Now, after buying the book & leaving the store, I noticed that it is signed 'Willie,' and it says:
Quote
Bill,
Since I'm leaving the Stones - I hope you or Mark can take me place - Mick & the lads need you
"Willie"

So, I'm wondering-does this look like an official signature? I've uploaded the photos to a Stones fan site, linked below. Answer quickly, please! No returns after 6 more days!

It looks like nothing was found at this location. Maybe try a search?

If you're saying to do a Google search, I did. All that comes up is Bill's album 'Willie & The Poor Boys,' which is why I'm holding on to hope that this is a real signature.

I'm just quoting what it said when I clicked on your link.

Here's a GOOD example of Bill's autograph

[eil.com]

(I did a Google search for 'Bill Wyman Autograph' and got lots of examples)

Judge for yourself how like/unlike your sample it is.

Your question is confusing. Is this supposed to be someone named Willie writing to Wyman in 1962 or is it Wyman calling himself Willie writing to someone named Bill in 1990?

In any event, it doesn't seem to be Wyman's handwriting. Below is an autograph sample for comparison.

I wonder who are Bill and Mark? Obviously bass players and friends of Bill Wyman's. Has anyone ever seen Bill sign his name as Willie?

Compare with his hadwriting in his scrapbook:

They dont look similar. Compare the L's....

I'm asking if the signature looks like Mr. Wyman's handwriting. I think that, logically, it would be Bill writing to a Bill in 1990 at a book signing. The question is if he ever signs as 'Willie'.

Ah, I see. Bill was, in fact, planning on leaving the Stones as early as 1990, as he discusses in this interview from early 1991.

However, would he have revealed this to a fan at a book signing? Maybe if it was intended in jest. But, apart from what he reveals in the above clip, he didn't make any public statement on leaving until 1993.

From the handwriting samples I've seen, it doesn't appear to be Bill's writing.

I was able to return the book a few days ago, but wanted to keep it, so I got a portion of the money back. They handled the reason very professionally and apologized.
Thanks for your wisdom, guys! smiling smiley
