but, I've read somewhere that he and Keef are good buds....or maybe it was that he GOT Keef "good buds"....especially for toking at the start of "Heartbreaker" on FF...
Blondie is a very talented guy who has worked w/ many greats - & was in the Beach Boys for a couple of excellent albums ("Holland") as well as having a long o.p. solid solo album. I have no problem w/ the bv's as KR obviously doesnt want to sing much backup on stage anymore. He ( has also worked w/ Ian McLagan & various RS solo projects.
A release of Blondie Chaplin's postponed solo album Fragile Thread from 2000 would be nice. If I remember the rumour correctly, there's some Stones playing on it, too.
The band's extended "family" (Daryl, Blondie, Lisa, Chuck, Bernard, etc.) has been stable for several tours, and don't forget the longtime presence of Bobby Keys. I don't see them jeopardizing with their success by bringing in new players and shooing others out the door. But for many fans, our eyes are riveted to Charlie, Mick, Keith and Ron, anyhow.
I love Blondie's hair. He don't wear no wig for sure. I'm satisfied with the back-up singers, although they should be supported by the daughters of the band members. Imagine, Leah Wood, Jade and Elizabeth Jagger and Keith's girls singing and doing some hot dancing on stage while Mick's performing Hot Stuff.
Blondie is very weird looking, like an alien...he actually makes Keith look good. Thats why they need him...he's a one-man freak show. Take away his guitar though, it's completely unnecessary.
Side Show Bob's hair is even more scary than Blondie's, Rockman! :-))
I don't know what they need him for - but to be honest, he seems like a nice guy, let him stand there, play guitar and sing or whatever and earn so money.
To me he´s completely unnecessary and I am sure he knows it, too. But he may be the luckiest guy on earth. He travels the world, performs in front of thousands and thousands of people in stadiums, can hang out with the Stones and earns good money for a little bit of playing and singing. Better than a real job, uh?
Is he needed ? I don't think so. Do they want him there ? Obviously. He adds without intruding, like Chuck does. As far as him playing acoustic guitar live on a song or two, I have not heard any major difference. He plays, but does not intrude, he understands the band concept. Just my opinion.
What do you have against Blondie now? I find him extremely unobstrusive and Keith needs a buddy to relate to during the show. Unfortunately Ronnie seemed out of it.
And if somebody is going to play the intro of One Hit it will be Blondie.
Saw how Mick greeted him behind the stage on FF? Very very formal, he's Keith' guy and maybe he rolls the best joints.
He is so out of place, but I can't say I ever detected his voice or guitar on any recording so what does it matter? He is probably some music executive's nephew and the Stones are paid to drag him along (just kidding).

LOL !!!! I definitely want them to play this song so I wouldn't mind Blondie playing the opening riff. I understand that Jimmy Page did some guitar work on this track because Keith wasn't able to do it well enough. How come, what's so difficult about this particular song.

Yeah i noticed it too that it was very formal. But i noticed it with other scenes too, sometimes the stones can be, at least in front of the camera, very formal against each other,
why do they need him to play acoustic guitar on gimme shelter it does not make any sense to me.Its so low in the mix and keith's, guitar is the centerpiece of the whole song.same with anytime he plays acoustic.
He tried to be a great guitar player when he toured with taylor in the late 80's and 90's and now he is back with keith.
