And right you are.
Chuck seems to have quite some influence on the setlist.

"The Last Time" would be something to stir interest in the tour, whether it were true or not. However, this would mean Ronnie would start it off, and they may not take that chance in case he is too drunk to play.

Personally, I think they will vary the opener like they did with the Licks tour.

My choice would be to have an elaborate extended sound intro, which builds to a cresendo and culminates with Have You Seen Your Mother Baby (Standing in the Shadow).

I understand that Mick is the person who writes the setlist. Keith just plays what he's told. (I can't remember the source but this is from an interview with Keith).

He does get to choose his own songs of course!

Where did you hear that Chuck has any influence on the setlist?

Chuck's impact on the setlist is e.g mentioned in the documentary on Four Flicks and also in an interview that can be found in the archives at rs.com.

Sympathie for the devil as an opener an Midnight Rambler as the encore would be my perfect opening and closing of an stones show!

Cheers,

JKent: it would never be an obscure song - that makes no sense at all. It will be a well-known tune - most likely a warhorse and almost assuredly HTW - you can bank on it.

Although it'll never happen.....it would be great if they opened up with "She's So Cold".

Not Fade Away was obscure wasn't it??? I thought so. Something like that would be nice IMO.

No. Not Fade Away is an incredibly well-known song - not just from the cover done by the Stones, but from the incessant covers done over the years by the likes of the Dead, etc. I doubt that many fans at a Stones show couldn't instantnly recognize the opening line....

Why not open with a cool bass line like Anybody Seen My Baby? :-) Still it sounded crap live during the B2B tour.

I would love Mother's Little Helper for the opener. It is a forgotten song..

This is gonna be a "mother" of a tour - no doubt they'll dust off:

have you seen your MOTHER, baby, standing in the shadows
MOTHER's little helper

A little birdie told me that the boys were opening with " " Hand of Fate" followed by " One Hit To The Body!" Look out! The first 10 minutes will knock you out of your seat!

The Chuck comment alluded to came from an interview with Mick I believe. He was explaining how they rehearsed nearly a hundred songs, and he and Chuck tried to boil them down to a show. He also mentioned that they select a few songs that are "fun" for the group on stage to perform. I believe he mentioned "Can't Get Next to You" in that context. To expand on the topic, the keyboards are rather necessary, since there are so many points during some songs where the guitars are silent when the Stones are on stage. Personally I would like to see a keyboard player come out only to play the original keyboard section (if any) for each song, but without Chuck on stage Keith and Ronnie would have to work much harder and pay attention.

Rip This Joint would have been cool. I was listening to the version on Stripped Companion the other day, and this song rocks!
